If you’ve been wondering why this blog has slowed down, well, it’s because for the past year I have been working on a book in collaboration with some truly fantastic librarians: Emily Ratica, Sara Smith, Julie Stivers, and Sybil “Mouna” Touré. This project has been my main focus outside of my daily work as a school librarian and my work reviewing for Booklist. I’m excited to finally share it with you and also return to working on this blog more consistently.

A brightly colored book cover for our book, Manga Goes to School.

Manga Goes to School: Cultivating Engagement and Inclusion in K–12 Settings is an AASL Standards-Based Learning Series book, and it encompasses both logistical manga collection development information as well as lesson plans written by actual school librarians who work at all grade levels in K-12. We worked hard to offer standards-based, rigorous lesson plans that will be engaging, as well as covering a lot of the difficult questions of collection development.

The book will release in Fall/Winter of 2024, and is currently available for preorder on the ALA site. ALA members receive a discount on this book by ordering through the ALA site!

I hope this resource is incredibly useful to all of you. I am very honored to have worked with such wonderful librarians, and I look forward to sharing more with you in the future!

By the way, if you are at ALA this weekend, our team will be presenting on Monday at 4 PM PST! While I was unable to make it, I prerecorded my segment, and the rest of the team will be present and available. If you have any questions about my portion of the presentation, do not hesitate to reach out!
