Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Severance season 2, episode 10.There was one moment in the finale of Severance season 2 where I thought Seth Milchick (Tramell Tillman) was going to turn on Lumon, but it didn’t happen. The ending of Severance season 2 was a whirlwind for most of the characters, but Milchick’s story shouldn’t get lost in analyzing everything that happened to Mark (Adam Scott), Gemma (Dichen Lachman), and Helly (Britt Lower). As Mark finally finished the Cold Harbor file, Milchick got a chance to speak with Kier Eagan, dance with Choreography and Merriment, and break his way out of a bathroom, but Severance missed one opportunity I was sure it was going to take.

Severance season 2 seemed to be building up to a moment when Milchick would finally follow in Ms. Cobel’s footsteps and rebel against Lumon. Severance went to great lengths to show how executives like Mr. Drummond constantly belittled Milchick, his verbose vocabulary, and even his race with the strange pictures of the race-swapped Eagans. Then, after all that buildup, there was the moment when Milchick seemed to have an epiphany when Mark told him “Work’s just work.” I thought the season finale was finally going to let Milchick disobey, and I was fully convinced it would happen during his speech.

I Expected Milchick To Turn On Lumon During The Robot Kier Eagan Scene In Severance Season 2’s Finale

Kier’s Insult Seemed Like The Last Straw For Milchick, But He Stayed Loyal To Lumon

I really thought Milchick was going to turn against Lumon during his awkward speech with the wax statue of Kier Eagan. Severance season 2 had laid so much groundwork for Milchick to turn on Lumon, and when the Kier statue insulted his vocabulary yet again, it looked like Milchick was finally going to snap. He almost did, too: Milchick openly defied Kier on one of the most important days in Lumon’s history and insulted his height. But his defiance didn’t last. Instead, Milchick simply swallowed his pride, accepted the chastisement through the robot Kier’s intercom, and introduced the Choreography and Merriment department.

What Milchick’s Role In The Severance Season 2 Ending Says About His Loyalty To Lumon

Lumon Is Milchick’s Entire Life: He Would Fight & Die For The Company

The fact that Milchick had this great moment to break away from Lumon and didn’t take it highlights a few interesting aspects of his character. Even after all the verbal abuse, all the psychological trauma (both from Lumon and from himself), and Mark’s encouragement to reclaim his life outside of work, Milchick still chose Lumon. Mark’s words ultimately rang hollow because work isn’t just work for Milchick, it’s his entire life. Lumon is a company he was willing to change entire parts of his personality for, one he was willing to endure constant insults for, and one he was willing to fight and die for.

It’s notable that Milchick literally slammed his body into the door when Helly and Dylan locked him in the bathroom. When he finally emerged, Milchick looked like a wild animal as he saw the Choreography and Merriment department had turned on him. He was completely desperate at that moment, because he knew that if Mark S. did escape, he would lose his job at Lumon. That was worse than potentially being attacked, and it was worth sacrificing his body to get out of the bathroom. Milchick may have crossed the point of no return in Severance, and he may be a Lumon man until he dies.
