Hollow Knight: Silksong‘s latest batch of updated screenshots shows off a familiar game that’s clearly seen some massive changes. It’s been six years since Team Cherry originally debuted fans’ first look at Silksong, a project that started as an expansion for the original Hollow Knight before ballooning into a full sequel. Game development is a very fluid process that tends to change direction and pivot constantly, so it stands to reason that the developer would have made some big changes to the game it originally revealed.

Over on X (formerly Twitter), mossbag shared the new images that were initially posted to Nintendo of Japan’s website, and while none of them showcase new locations or enemies, they do demonstrate some of the more recognizable changes made to Silksong. Perhaps most striking is the shot of protagonist Hornet sitting on a bench in the city of Bellhart: The entire area has seemingly been revamped to make the background pop while a couple of the characters have seemingly been adjusted or repositioned.

Silksong Has Undergone Some Big Changes

But It’s Still The Game Fans Crave

While the updated screenshots don’t necessarily convey Silksong‘s gameplay or mechanics, they do show a clear aesthetic improvement that’s emblematic of the game’s development. Over the course of six years, it stands to reason that sweeping changes would be implemented as Team Cherry further refined the aesthetic of the Kingdom of Pharloom, a realm that promises to be similar to Hallownest but unique in its architecture and design. What’s perhaps most exciting is the collection of new characters included in the Bellhart image.

Hollow Knight is filled with strange, enigmatic individuals; From devoted map illustrators to mild-mannered warriors, Hallownest is populated by plenty of iconic insects. Seeing some of the updated designs in Bellhart is encouraging, as the new images suggest the city is more lively and populated than before. How this will look in motion remains to be seen but at the very least, players shouldn’t have to wait too much longer.

Silksong Is Around The Corner

It’s About Time!

After years of speculation, Team Cherry finally confirmed a release window of 2025 for Hollow Knight: Silksong. That may still be somewhat vague, but it’s the most information fans have had regarding the launch in six years. Given the amount of hype the game’s generated, one has to hope that it will live up to expectations, but given the quality of the original Hollow Knight, I have to imagine that Team Cherry knows what it’s doing.
