The Biggest MCU Easter Eggs and Netflix References in Daredevil: Born Again Episode 8 Explained
Fisk’s White Suit, Blue, Ben Urich, And More
- Poindexter’s Blue Lights – Daredevil: Born Again episode 8 opens with a shot of a blue rose outside of Benjamin Poindexter’s cell. Additionally, there are multiple shots in the episode focused on Poindexter that are saturated in blue light, connecting to Bullseye’s aesthetic and costume in the original Marvel Comics. While he’s never received a full on-costume in the MCU, the closet we got was in Daredevil: Born Again’s premiere with Poindexter’s blue balaclava and bullseye logos on his gloves.
- Poindexter Gets Thrown In Gen Pop – Fisk has Poindexter thrown into general population at Riker’s, presumably as a means to have him killed by his fellow inmates. This is not unlike in Netflix’s Daredevil season 2 when Fisk cut a deal with Frank Castle’s Punisher to kill a prisoner, only to set Frank up by releasing multiple inmates to try and kill him afterward. While Frank of course survived, it wasn’t without causing a major bloodbath in Riker’s.
- Fisk and Vanessa’s Painting – Taking Vanessa to the building where he’s been keeping Adam locked away, it’s notable that the two of them are standing next to the white painting that first brought them together in Daredevil season 1. Likewise, the last time they were seen with the painting was at the end of Daredevil season 3, when the work of art received its now iconic blood spatter during Murdock, Bullseye, and Fisk’s major reckoning that resulted in Fisk’s arrest.
- La Guardia’s Desk – Earlier in Daredevil: Born Again, Mayor Fisk wonders aloud if the desk in his office was the same one La Guardia sat at when he served as New York’s 99th mayor, a man who Fisk’s father admired. Knowing that Vanessa would know, Fisk confirms that the desk was indeed La Guardia’s in this new episode.
- O’Melveny’s – Returning to Josie’s bar, Josie herself pours Matt and Cherry the same drink Foggy had the night he died. The fact that the drink was O’Melveny’s surprises Matt, seeing how he and Foggy only drank it when they won a case. This meant that Foggy was celebrating a case early, and someone likely wanted him silenced, meaning Bullseye’s attack was about more than simple vengeance.
- Jack “Always the Stag” Duquesne – Speaking with Artemis, Jack Duquesne aka Swordsman confirms he’s come to Fisk’s inaugural Black and White Ball alone, “always the stag.” This confirms that he’s yet to enter into a new relationship ever since his former girlfriend, Eleanor Bishop, was arrested for her illegal activities working for Fisk (as seen in 2021’s Hawkeye).
- Fisk’s White Suit Returns – Fisk enters the ballroom wearing a white suit, his signature look as the Kingpin of Crime in the original Daredevil Netflx series. As such, its a clear way to show that Fisk is embracing more of his old self and darkness, just as Matt Murdock is embracing Daredevil. As a side note, Vanessa’s dress is notably impressive as well. Because she took over her husband’s operations when he was elected mayor, “Red Queen” would certainly be a fitting moniker in more ways than one.
- “Uncle’s Murder” – Commissioner Gallo confirms that Wison Fisk was the primary suspect in the murder of Ben Urich, who was indeed strangled by the Kingpin in Daredevil season 1. BB confirms she knows, explaining her true motivations for trying to get closer to the Fisk Administration (so she can bring the former Kingpin down).
- Bullseye Crashes The Party – At the end of Daredevil: Born Again episode 8, Benjamin Poindexter escapes prison and heads straight for the Black and White Ball, wanting revenge on Fisk who ruined his life. This serves to be a direct mirror to the ending of Netflix’s Daredevil season 3 when Bullseye crashed Wilson and Vanessa’s wedding reception, leading to the epic three-way brawl between Fisk, Poindexter, and Murdock.
- Upside-Down Shot of Murdock Shot – Surprisingly taking the bullet intended for Mayor Fisk, Matt Murdock is shown bleeding out on the ballroom floor as the screen is saturated with red light, paralleling Bullseye’s blue. Likewise, the upside-down show of Murdock lying on the floor mirrors the similar upside-down shot from Daredevil: Born Again’s premiere of Foggy Nelson after he was shot by Poindexter.
Daredevil: Born Again season 1’s finale is set to begin streaming April 15th on Disney+.
