‘FBI’s Alana de la Garza Teases What’s Next for Isobel

FBI Season 7, Episode 17, “Lineage,” was heavy on Isobel Castille (Alana De La Garza) as she marked twenty years working in the Bureau. In her private life, Isobel had recently gotten married to Phillip (Tom Cavanagh), and her perspective of what’s important in life was starting to shift. TV Insider caught up with De La Garza, who shed some light on where Isobel is currently. Having a husband shows another side of the character that is rarely seen. “I think it’s fun to see Isobel’s softer side and he brings that out. So just having that storyline is great. The stakes are even higher now,” the actress said. She confirmed that “Phillip will definitely come up in future episodes,” adding, “There is a vulnerability that comes with loving your family and having them mean so much. As the SAC, Isobel feels that tremendously. She has a responsibility to protect the public but also her heart.”
Meanwhile, a personal case for Isobel came up as she tried to catch a criminal who had eluded her and the FBI for years. The team trusted the wrong person, which cost them dearly. “I think we haven’t seen the last of that storyline for sure,” De La Garza said of the storyline of the woman who killed her brother. “I think it’s so fun to explore storylines that carry through the season. When we catch the nemesis, it becomes that much more important and driven. I love when the good guys win. That’s what I always want,” she added. Isobel stays with the Bureau after realizing she’s still needed. Whether that changes remains to be seen, but if it were to happen, it’d be because of her new marriage. “When you have kids and a family, your perspective changes. What’s important to you, what fulfills you becomes completely different,” said De La Garza.
