The 2010s were a great time for young adult fantasy, and one of the biggest series from that period has a new spinoff coming out in April 2025. There’s no shortage of exciting new fantasy books arriving in April, from much-anticipated sequels to new stories by promising authors. And one young adult novel stands out among them, as it returns readers to a world they’ve already spent six full-length books and five novellas in.

Shatter Me remains one of the biggest YA fantasy series out there — likely because it spanned the entire 2010s and into the 2020s — and Mafi is releasing a spinoff this month. Titled Watch Me, the latest addition to this world will kick off a new series called The New Republic. It will take place a decade after The Reestablishment’s demise, and it will follow Aaron Warner’s younger brother, James, as he deals with the remains of the oppressive regime by finding his way to its last stronghold: Ark Island.

There, James will meet Rosabelle, who has become a weapon of the Reestablishment, offering a similar enemies-to-lovers dynamic to the original series. Watch Me is easily one of the most exciting new releases of April, and for some readers, it will no doubt be among the biggest fantasy books of 2025. After all, the last Shatter Me book came out back in 2020 (with the most recent novella arriving in 2021). It’s been a while since we’ve revisited this world, and it’ll be fascinating to see what’s become of it on the heels of Imagine Me‘s ending.

Given all the upheaval that occurs throughout the initial Shatter Me series, it makes sense to revisit the conflict from a new angle — and to show what both sides are up to now that their world has been reshaped.
