‘The Librarians’ Spin-Off Series Gets an Epic New Trailer
TNT’s Librarian universe is expanding with The Librarians: The Next Chapter premiering on May 26, 2025. The upcoming series is kicking off with a two-night premiere event and picks up after the original show, which ran for four seasons from 2014 to 2018. The Librarians: The Next Chapter follows Callum McGowan as Vikram Chamberlain, a time-traveling librarian from 1847 who finds himself stuck in the present. In an attempt to reclaim his past, Vikram accidentally unleashes magic that threatens to destroy the world.
The show will feature Vikram and his team of heroes, including a world history savant, a scientific genius, and a highly skilled Guardian as they race against time to undo the librarian’s mistake. A press release from Warner Bros. teases that the show will feature an Agatha Christie–style murder plot along with the group time-traveling back to the days of King Arthur and their first-ever vampire encounter. The Librarians: The Next Chapter promises to bring back the fantastical adventures, magic, and mystique that made the original series so popular.
According to Jason Sarlanis, President of Turner Networks, The Librarians remained a top-rated series on the network for all four seasons. He hopes that the new chapter in the franchise will perform the same way. Dean Devlin, Executive Producer and Director of the series, added that he is confident that the fans will fall in love with the new characters and “be seduced” by the wonderful world of The Librarians: The Next Chapter.
‘The Librarians: The Next Chapter’ Landed a Two-Season Order
The Librarian franchise started with a series of three TV movies starring Noah Wyle in 2004. The premise of the films revolved around a magical world that’s hidden from everyday life. In this world, ancient artifacts and knowledge are protected by a special group of librarians, who are ordinary people with extraordinary skills, tasked with protecting the world from the threats of the magical realm. The films were followed by the 2014 series, The Librarians, which followed a brand-new group of librarians.
The Librarians: The Next Chapter was initially greenlit by The CW in May 2023. However, it was later picked up by TNT in August 2024. According to Deadline, the success of the films and the original show led the network to hand the show a two-season order. Showrunner Dean Devlin told the outlet that Sam Linsky, who has worked on the franchise since 2004, convinced him to move the show to TNT. “It took a little gymnastics,” confessed Devlin, but added that bringing the show back to its roots was more important than anything else.
The cast of the upcoming show includes Jessica Green, Olivia Morris, Blue Robinson, and Caroline Loncq. Christian Kane will also reprise his role as Jacob Stone. Devlin also serves as the executive producer of the spinoff along with Wyle.
The Librarians: The Next Chapter kicks off with a two-night premiere event starting May 25, 2025, following NBA Playoffs coverage. The next episode will air on May 26, 2025. Subsequent episodes will continue to air every Monday night.
