One Piece’s Beloved Side Story Comes Back From Hiatus
Koi Suru Is Once Again Available on Jump+
On November 7, 2021, Shueisha, the company responsible for publishing One Piece, announced that the Koi Suru spin-off manga would go on hiatus. This was done to allow the creator, Daiki Ihara, the opportunity to work on personal projects, such as his finalized manga Mamore! Shugomaru. After more than three years without any updates on the series’ status, fans were delighted to learn that the manga would be making a comeback on April 10, 2025. The latest chapter, #142, is already available for fans to enjoy via the Jump+ app and website.

This odd but endearing series follows the adventures of a Japanese One Piece fan club created by a boy named Nakatsuwaga Ussop. His name drove him to love the manga and the outstandingly strong characters created by Eiichiro Oda, becoming a constant part of his life. After meeting other classmates who share a name with one of the series’ cast members, he decides to open a club to talk about and read the story. Each chapter is a parody of one included in the original, and One Piece fans all over the world seem to love how hilarious they can be.
The Manga’s Anime Might Be Responsible for Its Return
The Series Was Recently Adapted Into a Short Anime
Throughout the first five days of April 2025, the official One Piece social media accounts released a series of shorts based on the adventures of Koi Suru. These videos were widely beloved by fans, who had been waiting for an adaptation of their favorite spin-off for many years. While not all fans of the franchise were aware of their release, as the series is several times more popular in Japan, there is no doubt that they were a massive success.
As such, many fans believe that the return of the manga might be a direct result of the interest shown by fans in the story. Nonetheless, this does not seem to be the case, seeing as the latest chapter was released only 5 days after the anime ended. Working on any manga, even more so when talking about a spin-off of one of the best series in existence, takes time and effort. It is far more likely that the return of Koi Suru was scheduled long before the anime was released and was kept as a surprise for One Piece fans.
