Perrin’s Two Rivers Ending Sets Up 4 More Stories For Wheel Of Time Season 4

This article contains spoilers for The Wheel of Time season 3, episode 7. The Wheel of Time
season 3, episode 7 brought a dramatic end to this season’s Perrin story, and it set up three major stories for season 4. The Battle of Two Rivers was an undeniable highlight in what has been a spectacular third season of The Wheel of Time, albeit with pretty major changes made Robert Jordan’s books. It saw Marcus Rutherford’s Perrin Aybara step up and become the leader he was always destined to be, leading the villagers of the Two Rivers – and a contingency of Whitecloaks – against an invading army of Trollics.
It was an action-packed episode, but it was also rich in character development. To triumph, Perrin had to confront the many contradictions that lie at the heart of his character; his violent nature, his Wolfbrother powers, and also the way he is drawn to the Way of the Leaf. It’s safe to assume the show is about to head back to Rand al’Thor for the dramatic finale, but Perrin’s Two RIvers story sets up some pretty dramatic plots for the future.

Perrin’s trial with the Whitecloaks
The most obvious of these, of course, is the fact Perrin has surrendered himself to the Whitecloaks. Dane, chief of the Children of the Light, had sworn to bring Perrin to justice for the death of his father; as far as he’s concerned, Perrin needs to face justice. Perrin shows his honorable nature by agreeing to honor the bargain that brought the Whitecloaks to Two Rivers’ defense, even if it did turn into something of a debacle. He’s now headed for a trial.
Perrin’s surrender was a powerful moment, and it truly makes him stand out among the heroes of The Wheel of Time. He doesn’t live by the Way of the Leaf, but he does understand something the Tinkers have recognized; that violence has a consequence. He could have defended himself – the people of Two Rivers made their support for him pretty evident – but he chose not to do so. Perrin seeks an end to the cycle of violence that he fears will consume everything and everyone around him.

Alanna & The Channelers From Two Rivers
Alanna Sedai traveled to Two Rivers because she alone realized the potential diamond in the rough; after all, no less than three ta’veren hail from Two Rivers, and she’s already met two powerful Channelers as well. She has identified three potentials, including Mat’s sister Bode. Numbers of Aes Sedai have been depleted due to the battle against the Black Ajah, and Alanna is certainly going to want to shape the power she has found.
In Jordan’s books, Alanna brings the Channelers of Two Rivers to the White Tower. Bode becomes a particularly important character, initially skeptical of Rand’s claim to be the Dragon Reborn, only believing him after he demonstrates his power by levitating her. Alanna has indeed found new Channelers who will shape the future of the Aes Sedai, assuming the story weaves the same way.

Lord Luc & The Whitecloaks
Attentive viewers will note that something intriguing is going on with Lord Luc, supposedly a Hunter of the Horn who cooperates with the Whitecloaks. The Wheel of Time has changed Luc’s story, because he was originally the main villain of the Battle of Two Rivers – a powerful being known as Slayer who possesses the power to enter the World of Dreams at will. This made him Perrin’s rival, because Wolfbrothers too can enter this plane of reality, dubbing it the “Wolf Dream.”
It’s hard to say how this particular plot is going to play out. The Wheel of Time has shown no hint of giving Perrin the ability to enter Tel’aran’rhiod, and many are speculating Perrin’s most mystical power has been cut. If this is the case, then Luc’s story must be very different; still, he’ll surely be important. He’s allied with the Whitecloaks, so he’ll turn up again.

Faile’s Future Story Is A Mystery
The really curious question, though, is what The Wheel of Time season 4 will mean for Faile. Her story seems to have played out very differently; even her background has been shifted from the books. That means nothing can be guaranteed when it comes to Faile, and the questions raised by her plot leave Perrin’s entire arc in flux. It’s going to be thrilling to see what happens to Faile next.
