The 'Bosch' Spin-Off Will Be With Us Sooner Than We Think -

Bosch: Legacy may be ending, but the world of Harry Bosch is far from shutting down. As confirmed by series lead Titus Welliver, the upcoming spin-off Ballard—led by Maggie Q—is already on the way, with plans to arrive sometime in 2025. Viewers will be introduced to Maggie Q’s character, Renee Ballard, in the final episode of Bosch: Legacy Season 3. While the spin-off will dive deep into her cold case unit and a whole new supporting cast, her dynamic with Bosch will be central to the plot of the show, as Welliver told The Direct.

“Well, we introduce Renee Ballard in the 10th and final episode… That’s where she and Harry cross paths,” Welliver said. “He becomes kind of a mentor and has an almost paternal relationship with her. We don’t really have the time to establish that [in one episode], but we see them kind of at a point of impact. I’m thinking that it’s going to certainly come out in 2025, but that’s above my pay grade.”

Describing Q’s take on Ballard as “exquisite,” Welliver added, “Everybody has an idea about who that character looks like and who they sound like, and Maggie, to me, is the perfect fit.”

What is ‘Ballard’ About?

The spinoff series stars Maggie Q as the head of a new Cold Case division, with Welliver in a recurring role, alongside the likes of Courtney Taylor (Neon, Abbott Elementary), John Carroll Lynch (Big Sky, American Horror Story), Michael Mosley (The Calling), Rebecca Field (Shameless), Victoria Moroles (Never Have I Ever), Amy Hill (Mom), Ricardo Chavira (Selena), Noah Bean(Nikita), Alain Uy (Power Book IV: Force), and Hector Hugo (Snowfall). The Prime Video spinoff follows Detective Renée Ballard (Maggie Q), who is tasked with running the LAPD’s new cold case division—a poorly funded, all-volunteer unit with the largest caseload in the city. Ballard approaches these frozen-in-time cases with empathy and determination. When she uncovers a larger conspiracy during her investigations, she’ll lean on the assistance of her retired ally, Harry Bosch, to navigate the dangers that threaten both her unit and her life.
