Today’s puzzle for Connections features many different words with multiple meanings, making it confusing to know which patterns to pair together. Throughout this puzzle, I found that some of the phrases being used had completely new definitions depending on context. By using the right hints to get some synergies right away, you’ll be able to infer the right meanings for specific words.

I learned that today’s theme for the puzzle is words with multiple contexts based on the situations they refer to. For example, one word had two definitions as both a verb and a noun, but the right version was not clear right away. With a limit of four mistakes total for today’s puzzle, it is more important than ever to have some hints that may help you find a solution.

Today's Connections Hints & Answers For April 15, 2025 (Puzzle #674) Categories

When trying to solve today’s puzzle, I looked for threads of connectivity, similar to how you would solve the NYT Vertex puzzle game. Looking for words with one clear definition first helped me narrow down my choices and think more about words that had multiple meanings. Once I got one part of the puzzle solved, having those early words clearly defined made it easier to figure out what they were more likely to associate themselves with.

To give yourself that important context, follow these hints for each of today’s categories:

  • One category is about things related to stopping something before or after you start it.
  • One category is about things related to games you play with diamonds, hearts, clubs, and spades.
  • One category is about things related to classical theater.
  • One category is about people who exist in Neverland.

Yellow Answers: Revealed & Explained

DESIST

ABSTAIN

AVOID

CEASE

REFRAIN

This part of the puzzle was more straightforward to solve for me, as it had words with clear definitions like ABSTAIN. However, you can easily get tricked here with REFRAIN, which also has context as a musical term. With CHORUS in the same puzzle, you could accidentally put those words together and miss how REFRAIN relates to AVOID and CEASE to make the right pairings.

BRIDGE

HEARTS

SPEED

SPOONS

This puzzle was trickier for me, as I assumed BRIDGE was referring to the literal noun of a physical bridge offering passage over something. The plural form of HEARTS gives you the best clue here, referring to the Hearts suit used in most card games. Once you figure out that context, the SPOONS, SPEED, and BRIDGE words offer greater meaning as the names of card games you can play with that suit involved.

TRAGEDY

Classical Greek dramas are known for their TRAGEDY, HUBRIS, and HERO through popular stories like Herakles, Perseus, and especially Odysseus with Christopher Nolan’s upcoming The Odyssey movie. These myths stood out in my mind to connect those first three words, but the last one eluded me for a while. Eventually, I remembered that during plays in Ancient Greece, a CHORUS usually performed during intermissions, helping me finish this puzzle part.

SECOND WORDS OF “PETER PAN” CHARACTERS

BELL

PAN

HOOK

The reference to Disney’s Peter Pan was lost on me for quite some time as I studied today’s puzzle, as I interpreted PAN as a kitchen item rather than a character. However, I fondly remember Robin Williams in the movie Hook, and looking at PAN and HOOK together clued me into the right context. From there, BELL for Tinkerbell and DARLING for Wendy Darling helped me understand this final part of the puzzle.
