Austin Nichols recently reflected on one of his earliest movie roles, sharing how awkward he felt filming a kiss scene with Mary-Kate Olsen in the 2001 film Holiday in the Sun. At the time, Nichols was around 18 or 19, while Mary-Kate was just 15. That age difference made things uncomfortable for him.
Speaking on the Drama Queens podcast, Nichols said he was nervous from the start. He explained, “I was too old, and it felt weird, and it felt wrong. And, you know, I looked very young, so watching the movie, I don’t think you notice.” The actor added, “I don’t think you can tell there’s a big age difference, but for my brain, was like, she’s 15, this is not, this is weird.”
Nichols explained that he even raised his concerns with the producers and Mary-Kate’s father, who was present during filming. He said everyone assured him that the scene would be appropriate and that it wasn’t a big deal. The actor added, “Nobody was you know, nobody seemed concerned, and I was very concerned, but it turned out fine. It was all very G-rated.”
Despite his early doubts about the movie, Nichols acknowledged that fans still enjoy it years later. While he once saw it as a “silly” role, he said, “It’s only paid me back a million times with love.”
In the film, Nichols played Griffen Grayson, a teenager who befriends the twin sisters played by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen during a winter vacation in the Bahamas. The film also featured a young Megan Fox.
