Jai Courtney Becomes the Apex Predator In ‘Dangerous Animals’ Image [Exclusive]

Although the Australian native Jai Courtney has certainly had his turn as the protagonist, it’s his dastardly work in projects like The Suicide Squad and Buffaloed — where he can use his million-dollar smarmy grin — that seems to lock in audiences the most. But, in his latest role, that smug charisma has been all but replaced by an unsettling gut feeling that tells you to run the other way. Today, Collider is thrilled to unveil an exclusive image of Courtney’s newest monstrous personality as a maniacal serial killer with an obsession for sharks in Dangerous Animals.
Bulky, bleeding, and brutal are just a few words we’d use to describe Courtney’s appearance in the photo that sees him standing on top of a ship’s deck, looking down into the water through beady little shark-like eyes. One hand is bleeding and wrapped, while the other holds a video camera, undoubtedly taping the latest victim to fall prey to his serial killing spree. Playing into it all is his naturally wavy hair. Anyone who has a head full of curls knows that humidity is the number one enemy, and, in the case of the vibes for Dangerous Animals, Courtney’s locks are fully working for his persona, leaning into the unkempt madness that his character holds within.
Directed by Sean Byrne (The Devil’s Candy) and penned by Nick Lepard (Keeper), Dangerous Animals centers on a serial killer obsessed with his fellow apex predator — sharks. Carrying out his sadistic slayings on his boat, the killer always allows the sharp-toothed creature to finish the job, filming every famished feeding session and keeping the tapes to watch over and over again. After capturing his latest victim — a brave and bold surfer — the killer may have met his match when she puts up the fight of her life. Joining Courtney on the call sheet are Hassie Harrison (Yellowstone) and Josh Heuston (Dune: Prophecy).
What Else Does Jai Courtney Have On the Way?
After a successful few years that saw him working opposite The Boys’ Erin Moriarty on Stuart Gatt’s drama, Catching Dust, and joining the cast of Peter Berg’s violence-filled historical miniseries, American Primeval, where can fans plan to see Courtney next? Along with Dangerous Animals, the actor is set to join a star-studded cast that includes Alan Ritchson and Dennis Quaid in Patrick Hughes’ fast-paced sci-fi flick, War Machine, which just received an incredibly promising update from Ritchson.
Take a look at Courtney in his most predatory role yet in our exclusive image from Dangerous Animals above and see the film in cinemas on June 6.
