This ‘Love on the Spectrum’ Breakup Is Messier Than You Think

For the most part, Love on the Spectrum is all about joy, happiness, and love. But like any relationship, not everything is going to work out perfectly. For the most part, when the participants don’t have a connection with a date, it’s a clean break. But for one couple, their breakup has caused immense heartbreak that has seeped out from the show.
In Season 1, viewers watched cartoonist Dani Bowman on her search for love. She eventually found Adan Correa, hit it off, and they became a couple. Through Season 2, they got closer and started a relationship. While we knew that they both had different ideals of where they wanted the relationship to head from a physical standpoint, we were all blindsided when that became the sticking point that broke them apart in Season 3. While the show only shared the phone call that ended their relationship, it’s social media that’s telling us the rest of the story.
‘Love on the Spectrum’ Hoped for the Best For Dani and Adan
The joy of Love on the Spectrum is watching the hope that shines through when love begins. There’s a reason why Abbey Romeo and David Isaacman are the beacon of love for the series. During Season 3, we witnessed what it was like when Madison Marilla found an instant connection, earning her first kiss, and gaining a boyfriend. Fans who have stuck with the show truly believed that after Abbey and David, Dani and Adan would be the next couple to prove that love can survive. Unfortunately, it could not. But their breakup allowed for an incredibly difficult and personal conversation to come to light.
For much of Dani’s journey, she was hoping to find a partner who not only enjoyed many of the same things she did, like animation, but she was also hopeful of finding a partner who would be willing to engage in some intimacy. From what we witnessed on screen, Adan was “open” to it. That’s what he told her. That’s what she told us. But, when the time came for her to propose the idea, through an animation no less, he was less keen on the idea, holding steadfast to his beliefs and morals that he did not want to engage in premarital sex. After a difficult phone call, their relationship ended. After 18 months in love, sex became the deal breaker.
Breakups happen to everyone. We don’t want them to, but that’s the circle of relationship life. And intimacy can be a true cog in the reason why. This kind of thing happens in the real world to anyone, no matter who they are. And it’s incredible that we can see how it’s portrayed on this show, as it’s raw and real. But the aftermath of Dani and Adan’s breakup has been a mess. With so many viewers eager to know what happened and how they’re doing, both Adan and Dani have used social media to tell their side of the story.
Dani and Adan Have Made Their ‘Love on the Spectrum’ Breakup Public
Following their public breakup during Season 3, Dani spoke to Tudum, spilling all the boiling-hot tea about the separation. Feeling “blindsided” and “betrayed,” she shared, “I didn’t break up with Adan, he broke up with me. Or at least, that’s how it felt. Because for a year and a half, he let me believe we were on the same page, that we were building something real together. And then, just like that, he pulled the rug out from under me.” To be fair, we agree simply based on what was portrayed on screen. Of course, that’s only part of the narrative. Dani was always clear about her intentions and goals, so to learn that it had taken multiple steps backwards, it’s understandable why Dani felt the way she did. She shared that they are no longer friends, which makes sense. It’s hard to be friends with someone who breaks your heart. We’ve all been there before.
Commenting on a TiikTok video about her and Adan, Dani made a bold claim about their time together. She revealed, “He never invited me out on a real date. The only time he would see me was when the cameras were rolling.” Continuing to drop the bombshell that they only went on five real dates in the span of a year, it became illuminating as to just how things began to spiral to the end. But as much as Dani had spoken out, the normally soft-spoken Adan came in to defend himself, claiming, via a response of a comment from a fan, that she was trying to “destroy his life with lies.” Dani then chimed in, saying, “The only reason I’m heartbroken is because you got my friends of over 10 years to stop talking to me!” Needless to say, it’s been a mess.
Many fans speculated before the season began that perhaps Dani had moved on, thanks to an Instagram post on March 15th saying, “Dani met a boy with eyes like a man. Turns out her heart fits right in the palm of his hand!” With the individual’s face being hidden, it soon became clear that the boy in question was not Adan. She has since hard-launched her new relationship with Henry, whom she met at the Huntington Park Police Department when her company, DaniMation, received a donation for autism awareness. She shared with Tudum, “For the first time in my life, I’m with someone who truly sees me. Not just as an animator, not just as an advocate; not just as someone on the spectrum, but as Dani. And that? That’s the best feeling in the world.” Dani and Adan’s public spat shows the other side of the incredibly positive show. While showcasing this on the show itself may not be right for its mission, it’s important to know that no matter who they are, the full spectrum of love and heartbreak affects everyone.
