Tony Gilroy Addresses Potential ‘Rogue One’ Connections in ‘Andor’ Season 2

With Andor Season 2 right around the corner and Star Wars Celebration set to kick off this weekend, there’s no better time to be invested in stories from a Galaxy Far, Far Away. Andor Season 2 will pick up the story of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), the lone ranger who goes from a scoundrel to one of the core figures in the early days of the Rebellion. Andor is a prequel series to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and while Season 1 was mostly lacking connections to the film, Season 2 will begin to weave some threads together. We know that K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) and Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) will appear, but during a recent interview with THR, Andor creator Tony Gilroy spoke about the complexities of adding legacy characters to the cast:
“Legacy characters are really tricky to bring back. They’re very, very expensive. A lot of times, their schedules don’t work out. There’s probably a couple people that we wanted to have in Yavin at the end, who are in the beginning of Rogue, but we just couldn’t get them because they were busy.”
The first season of Andor was set many years before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but Season 2 will take place over a much larger span and lead right up to the events of the 2016 Star Wars movie. It has already been confirmed that Andor Season 2 will premiere its first three episodes on April 22, with subsequent episodes debuting on Disney+ in three-episode chunks until the final three installments air on May 13, less than one month after the premiere. Andor star Adria Arjona, who portrays Bix Caleen in the series, confirmed in an interview with Collider last year that there will be a one-year time jump between each pod of episodes, which leaves a larger span to follow the evolution of the characters.
Who Else Will Star in ‘Andor’ Season 2?
In addition to Diego Luna and Adria Arjona returning to star as Cassian Andor and Bix Caleen, Andor Season 2 will also feature the return of Stellan Skarsgård, the rugged Rebel leader who will go to any extreme necessary to give his cause the upper hand. Genevieve O’Reilly has also been set to reprise her role as Mon Mothma, the Republic Senator who is deeply involved with the Rebellion but has to hide her true allegiance due to the ever-growing threat of the Empire. Kyle Soller and Denise Gough will also return in Andor Season 2 to reprise their roles as Syril Karn and Dedra Meero.
Andor Season 2 premieres on April 22. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of the series, and watch Andor on Disney+.
