Anthony Mackie Is Back To Blow Shit Up in the First Look at ‘Twisted Metal’ Season 2

Twisted Metal fans, rejoice — Peacock has officially announced that Season 2 of Anthony Mackie’s explosive action series will premiere on July 31. The streamer has unveiled the first-look images from Twisted Metal Season 2, which show Mackie and other stars such as Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Anthony Carrigan (Barry). Peacock has also released the first official teaser for Twisted Metal Season 2, which can be found below. Will Arnett and Joe Seanoa/Samoa Joe also star as regulars in Twisted Metal Season 2, which was written and created for television by Michael Jonathan Smith, who also executive produces with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Reese and Wernick are best known for their work as scribes on all three of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool movies, and they also wrote Ghosted (Chris Evans) and Spiderhead (Chris Hemsworth).
Following the shocking revelations in the Season 1 finale, John (Mackie) and Quiet (Beatriz) find themselves entering the deadly new Twisted Metal tournament, a reckless demolition derby hosted by the mysterious Calypso (Carrigan). John and Quiet will work to survive the dangerous waves of new enemies and familiar faces alike, including the homicidal clown Sweet Tooth (Arnett). However, things get complicated for John when he reunites with his long-lost sister, Dollface, the ruthless vigilante portrayed by Sadiqua Bynum.
Twisted Metal Season 1 was mostly well-received by critics, earning a 63% from reviewers on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. However, general audiences were much higher on the series, giving it a strong 93%, which makes it one of the highest-rated projects of Anthony Mackie’s career. Patty Guggenheim, Tiana Okoye, Michael James Shaw, Saylor Bell Curda, Lisa Gilroy, and Richard de Kirk will all guest star.
What Else Has Anthony Mackie Been in Lately?
It’s been a big year for Anthony Mackie, who already made his big-screen debut as Captain America earlier this year in Captain America: Brave New World. The film didn’t shatter expectations at the box office nor earn strong reviews from critics, but it did cement him as the new Captain America and leader of the Avengers heading into Doomsday next year. Mackie also recently starred in an episode of The Studio, the Apple TV+ spoof series starring Seth Rogen, and he had a small role in The Electric State, the most recent flick from the Russo Bros.
Twisted Metal Season 2 premieres on July 31. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of the series, and watch Twisted Metal on Peacock.
