Can you be nostalgic for dinosaurs? That’s the aim for the creators of Jurassic World Rebirth, the latest entry in the iconic franchise, which is roaring to theaters on July 2. Directed by Rogue One filmmaker Gareth Edwards, the aim of the movie is to try and recapture the spirit of Jurassic Park, leaning on the awe, danger, and wonder that defined Steven Spielberg’s original 1993 classic. Today, Universal unveiled a behind-the-scenes featurette that teases the return of jungle-set survival horror, practical effects, and a story centered more on characters than corporate cloning.

We wanted to go back to what made the original so special,” says Edwards in the sneak peek, which also showcases sweeping island landscapes, lush rainforests, and — yes — some massive, teeth-gnashing dino action, which is why we’re here, let’s be honest.

Set five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominionthe one with the gigantic bugs — Rebirth finds dinosaurs confined to a tropical biosphere resembling their prehistoric past. Wonder if they do all inclusive deals? The twist, though, is that the last three colossal species on Earth might hold the key to a drug that could change human medicine forever. Assuming you have insurance, we’re sure.

Who Is In ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’?

Scarlett Johansson stars as Zora Bennett, a covert ops specialist tasked with retrieving DNA from the colossal monsters. She’s joined by Jonathan Bailey (not Dancing Through Life as far as we know) as paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis, Mahershala Ali as elite team leader Duncan Kincaid, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and breakout star Luna Blaise, who reportedly beat out stiff competition to land her role. David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, Philippine Velge, Ed Skrein, and Béchir Sylvain round out the cast — along with a hungry herd of predators ready to defend their territory. The movie is also produced by longtime Jurassic stewards Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, with Spielberg executive producing for Amblin, presumably to make sure they don’t utterly destroy the legacy of one of his finest movies.

As revealed in the featurette, the mission takes a turn when Zora’s team crosses paths with a shipwrecked family who encountered some very toothy aquatic life. Stranded and out of options, the two groups must navigate the dangers of the island — and uncover a decades-old secret hidden in the depths of the jungle.
