Marvel Studios have just dropped the first full trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps and it’s given us our greatest glimpse yet at what will be one of Marvel’s most exciting and daring moves yet. Pedro Pascal stars as Reed Richards (aka Mister Fantastic), joined by Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (aka the Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (the Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (aka the Thing). They’re joined by Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal, a version of the Silver Surfer, and Ralph Ineson as the voice of Galactus. The ensemble also includes John Malkovich and Paul Walter Hauser in undisclosed roles.

The trailer shows a happy and prosperous alternative 1960s, with a television broadcast paying tribute to the efforts of the Fantastic Four in keeping the world safe. We then see Marvel’s First Family at home, and some fun dynamics between each other, as well as the announcement that Sue Storm is pregnant. Happiness ensues… until the Silver Surfer appears to tell them their planet has been marked for destruction.

Reed says he stretched the bounds of time and space, and “they heard”, before he declares that there is not enough time. And then he arrives. Galactus. But they won’t go down without a fight, as Reed declares: “We will protect you”.

Pedro Pascal “Wants to Make People Happy” With ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’

The film, directed by WandaVision‘s Matt Shakman, will take the quartet of Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben back to the retro-futurist optimism of the 1960s—but with a fun twist, because this is not our ’60s, but one from an alternate Earth in the multiverse where utopian ideas actually became real, and you know what, it looks great. It’s a huge role for a man used to performing on the big stage, but stepping into Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps as Reed Richards as Mr. Fantastic? That, even for him, was a big task, as he told EW.

“It was really intimidating. You really want to make people happy, especially if it’s something that’s widely known with particular expectations around it. Each time I’ve felt like I couldn’t top how intimidating the last one was. They’re all scary. You really want to make people happy. Especially if it’s this.”

But for Reed, the smartest man on the planet, the challenge of Galactus seems one step too far.

Even the smartest man in the world is awestruck by a being that outdates his understanding of time,” Pascal says of Reed facing Galactus.

Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters July 25, 2025. Check out the official trailer for the movie above.
