WARNING: SPOILERS ahead for Ransom Canyon.

The ending of Ransom Canyon episode 10, “Maybe It’s Time Yancy Grey Dies Too,” leaves some characters with happy endings and others more clouded in mystery. Following the death of Yancy’s grandfather, Cap Fuller, at the end of episode 9, episode 10 opens with a montage of several characters in Ransom Canyon’s cast at difficult crossroads. As Ellie mourns Cap’s death and Lauren struggles to accept a life-altering injury, Yancy buries Cap on his ranch and Lucas discovers Kit signed his emancipation papers.

Quinn and Staten finally get together after she officially dumps Davis, only to have their long-overdue romance fall apart in the final moments of the Ransom Canyon season 1 finale. Lucas makes a big romantic gesture at the dance hall, winning back Lauren’s heart, while Ellie leaves Yancy hanging at the altar after a woman claiming to be Yancy’s wife shows up out of nowhere. Most shockingly of all, Sheriff Brigman is forced to place his wife, Margaret, under arrest on manslaughter charges for the death of Staten’s son, Randall Kirkland.

Margaret & Kit’s Roles In Randall’s Death Explained

After Kit was arrested for his involvement in Randall’s death, Sheriff Brigman had to do the unthinkable and arrest his wife, since she, not Kit, was behind the wheel of the Ford truck that caused Randall to crash. Margaret doesn’t have much of a role in the series as the alcoholic mother of Lauren. It’s revealed that she had an affair with Kit, who was with her in the truck the night that Randall died.

Kit called Reid to take the truck, have the VIN scraped off, and dump it in a nearby lake, where Lucas discovered the submerged truck while swimming with Lauren. Reid owed Kit a favor, which is how he and Nick got involved. Ultimately, Margaret was likely driving drunk and swerving, forcing Randall to crash the car that his Uncle Davis had given him.

Does Yancy Grey Actually Have A Wife?

A bullrider in Ransom Canyon

Yancy cuts ties with Davis and decides to honor Cap by not selling his land to Austin Water & Power, which he originally agreed to do to get Davis to help get him out of prison. Cap’s death inspires Yancy to start fresh with a clean slate. He asks Ellie to marry him on a whim and she eventually agrees but leaves him hanging at the altar after a woman claiming to be his wife walks into the dance hall.

Obviously, this comes as a major surprise, since Yancy had never mentioned her before. She could be an impostor but no matter what, Yancy is going to have some explaining to do at the start of Ransom Canyon season 2.

Why Staten Left Quinn’s Bracelet At The Bar

Just when you think Staten has finally come to his senses to pursue a relationship with Quinn, he walks away from their romance. He left the tweed bracelet Quinn had tied on his wrist at the bar when he was sitting as a sign that he didn’t want to hold Quinn back. Staten has it wrapped up in his mind that he is doing what’s best for Quinn by leaving, especially after breaking her confidence and revealing Davis’s financial debt publicly, which Quinn had asked to be kept a secret. Staten proves that Quinn was right about “only wanting his own pain” because he steps away from who seems to be the love of his life.

Yancy Grey’s True Identity & Fuller Family History Explained

Jack Schumacher as Yancy Grey in Ransom Canyon

One of the various mysteries about Yancy Grey is who he is and where he came from. Initially, Yancy wanted to get back at Cap, his biological grandfather, for turning his mother, Cap’s daughter, away when she needed help after Lincoln, her husband, died. Yancy only learns after his death that Cap has spent years looking for them, torn up about what he had done. As Cap’s grandson, he is a Fuller and the next of kin. It’s unclear if his first name is actually Yancy or not and what he did to end up in prison in the first place.

Why Lauren Tried Breaking Up With Lucas

A still of a cheerleader from the Ransom Canyon trailer

Lauren and Lucas seemed to be the steadiest of the relationships in Ransom Canyon until after Lauren’s fall during a cheer performance, resulting in her breaking her shoulder. Her dreams of going to UT Austin for cheerleading are now officially over, leaving her devastated. Before her fall, she spots Lucas in the crowd and can instantly tell he’s upset about something, which ends up being about Kit’s willingness to sign the emancipation papers.

This distraction is what caused Lauren to fall, even though it wasn’t really Lucas’s fault. She doesn’t blame Lucas as much as she feels embarrassed and defeated by ruining her second chance at her dream school, whereas Lucas has multiple offers from several of the nation’s top colleges.

Kai & Ellie’s Relationship History Explained

Marianly Tejada as Ellie Catawnee in Ransom Canyon

Throughout most of Ransom Canyon, it seemed like Kai had a crush on Ellie but was stuck in the friend zone. As it turns out in the Ransom Canyon season 1 finale, Kai’s concern about Ellie marrying Yancy wasn’t just out of a hopeful wish that he could still win her over, but instead based on a past relationship.

Apparently, Kai had fit the “bad boy” profile that Ellie is into when they first met years ago. Kai straightened up and became a cop and Yancy seems to be following a similar path towards coming clean. Kai, however, may turn out to be right about Yancy after all, since he always seems to keep a secret or two in his back pocket.

Why Davis Tricked Staten Into Hitting Him

Eoin Macken as Davis Collins in Ransom Canyon

Davis relentlessly tries to get Staten’s ranch from him so that he and his ex-wife Paula Jo, who’s on the board for Austin Water & Power, can benefit from it. They want to run a water pipeline directly through Staten’s land, which he refuses to do. They first tried to have his wells fail to pass inspection, even though they would have been just fine if Paula Jo hadn’t bribed and extorted AW&P personnel to falsely fail Staten’s wells.

Staten would have had to come up with millions to repair the wells if Reid hadn’t revealed a recording of Paula Jo admitting to the scheme. With Staten’s dad also trying to usurp him as trustee of the ranch out of spite for his father overlooking him, Davis baits Staten into punching him, which gives Staten’s father the proof he needs that Staten is not fit to be trustee.

Will Quinn Leave Ransom Canyon For New York?

After Staten leaves Quinn hanging once again, she considers returning to New York to play piano in the world-renowned Philharmonic orchestra. Without Staten to keep her in Ransom and the dance hall potentially going out of business, Quinn could very well take the offer and get the hell out of Dodge. Although Quinn’s heart lives in Ransom Canyon, she also knows her talents as a musician can take her place. Since Staten is still wasting time kicking rocks with their relationship, Quinn may be off to bigger and better things, although it isn’t directly clear if that’s what she truly wants.

The Real Meaning Of Ransom Canyon’s Ending

Ransom-Canyon-Netflix-Western-TV-show

The finale of Ransom Canyon season 1 ends on several cliffhangers that will keep viewers guessing until a potential season 2, which has yet to be announced by Netflix. While Staten screwing things up again with Quinn was quite predictable, Yancy’s backstory keeps delivering stunning developments, making viewers wonder whether he’s misunderstood or just a cold-hearted con man. Lauren had the hardest fall of any character in Ransom Canyon, now fearing that she will be stuck in her hometown even longer after her mom’s arrest. At least she had Lucas, who is head-over-heels for her.

Even though Margaret gets arrested for Randall’s death, we still haven’t seen how Staten responded besides going to the cliff, a scenic location he used to enjoy with his son. Staten’s dad teaming up with Davis is certainly not good for Staten, who will have to defend himself brilliantly to hang onto his ranch. The biggest unanswered question, however, is who this mystery wife of Yancy’s is, which viewers will be dying to know until Ransom Canyon season 2 comes out.
