Peter Dinklage Is the Hero We Need Now
A new teaser trailer for The Toxic Avenger has been released.
The Toxic Avenger is a new, ultra-bloody superhero movie written and directed by Macon Blair. Starring Peter Dinklage in the titular role, the movie will be released in United States theaters this coming August.

What happens in The Toxic Avenger teaser trailer?
The Toxic Avenger trailer sees Dinklage playing Winston Gooze, a janitor who transforms into a mutant vigilante named Toxie after a freak accident.
“Armed with his signature mop, the unlikely hero battles freaks, gangsters, and corrupt CEOs while trying to save his relationship with his son,” the official synopsis reads. “The story channels the subversive gonzo energy of the original Toxic Avenger while delivering a fresh, contemporary twist.”
The cast of The Toxic Avenger also includes Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood, Jacob Tremblay, Julia Davis, and Taylour Paige.
The Toxic Avenger premiered at Fantastic Fest in September 2023; however, it wasn’t until January 2025 that Cineverse acquired the distribution rights to the film. The new reboot will be the fifth entry in the franchise following 1984’s The Toxic Avenger, 1989’s The Toxic Avenger Part II, 1989’s The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie, and 2000’s Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV.
“I’m beyond grateful to the team behind ‘The Toxic Avenger’ who were so supportive and steady-handed as we searched for the perfect distribution partner for our film,” Blair said when the movie was acquired by Cineverse, via Variety. “It’s so cool that folks will have the chance to see this in theaters, it’s a fun rowdy movie you wanna see with a crowd. Mutant hero smashes bad guys with a mop: perfect entertainment for the whole family! Our goal was always to preserve the heart and spirit of the original Toxie (which was seared into my brain at a very young age) and try to make something that Troma fans would dig and at the same time do something with the character that feels fresh. Lloyd and Michael at Troma have been a blast to work with, absolutely everyone at Legendary are stars, and I can’t wait to start working with the champs at Cinverse to bring this version of Toxie to fans new and old.”
The Toxic Avenger will be released in United States theaters on August 29, 2025.
