Lucasfilm has finally announced the first official details for Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling’s Star Wars movie, including its title, release date, and plot details. Production on the highly anticipated project is expected to begin sometime this fall.

Now officially titled Star Wars: Starfighter, the movie is described as a stand-alone adventure that will take place five years after the events of 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. According to the studio, “it is an entirely new adventure featuring all-new characters set in a period of time that has not been explored on screen yet.”

When is the release date for Shawn Levy & Ryan Gosling’s Star Wars Movie?

Star Wars: Starfighter has now been scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 28, 2027. At the moment, it currently has no direct box office competition on the day of its release. However, it will be debuting in the same month as Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Secret Wars.

“The reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters,” Gosling said during the project’s official announcement at the recent Star Wars Celebration panel in Tokyo. “It’s filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.”

The film will be directed and produced by Levy from a screenplay written by Jonathan Tropper. Prior to the movie’s official announcement, it was recently reported that Oscar winner Mikey Madison was offered a role in the film. However, the Anora star ultimately turned down the movie, reportedly due to both parties not reaching an agreement regarding pay.
