Elegy of the Soul is a powerful boss found during the Trial of the Dragon questline in Metaphor: ReFantazio. This challenging encounter represents the end of the quest and makes players use everything they have to win. There is no easy way to beat this boss; it can shift through multiple archetypes, each giving it a new diverse pool of powerful attacks and abilities. It has a changing fighting style and requires knowing multiple strategies to win and hoping it doesn’t feel like playing a little unfairly with its most powerful attack.

To prepare for this fight, you have to go in with a high level of equipment and Archetypes that can support your team. You have to be ready to lose a few times, too, because Armageddon’s Final Sire is its best attack that can defeat your whole party in one shot if you’re not ready, and the boss sometimes does it twice in a row. This fight is nearly as hard as beating the final boss in Metaphor: Refantazio.

Defeating Elegy of the Soul in Metaphor: ReFantazio is a huge task and requires a lot of preparation. First and foremost, make sure your party is at least level 70, ideally higher. The boss has many skills, switching between eight different archetypes, each with unique attacks. You should have the Prince, Healer, Persona Master, and Samurai or Knight Archetypes. Bring whichever followers you’ve leveled up those Archetypes with most.

The most important Archetype you can bring along is a healer, because the boss can really change things up against you, and cause a lot of damage at once. You’ll want a dedicated healer, but you need to be ready to focus on just surviving sometimes, too, so healing items are important to fill in the gaps. Having moves that make the boss weak to certain elements, like Frigid Forest Tactic, will also be extremely useful, as Elegy of the Soul’s ability to switch Archetypes will often leave you unable to hit its weakness.

Do not take any equipment that repels or absorbs elements because this will trigger the boss’ devastating Armageddon’s Final Sire attack, which will instantly wipe out your team. Instead, equip items that reduce fire damage, as many of the boss’s attacks are fire-based. Elegy of the Soul has five turns at the start of the battle, using one for archetype changes, leaving four turns to decimate your party. Make sure your defensive equipment is built for damage, because this boss does not hold back.

Tips & Tricks To Beat Elegy Of The Soul

Best Strategies

Elegy of the Soul is the final challenge in the Trial of the Dragon questline in Metaphor: ReFantazio. It stands out as one of the toughest bosses in the game, so it requires a good team. Elegy of the Soul can switch between various Archetypes, each with unique attacks. The key is to use Prince for consistent damage, heal frequently, and make sure that the Elegy is more focused on your attacks than anything else. If you prolong the battle for too long, it may lead to the Elegy using Armageddon’s Final Sire, which is normally an instant loss.

Be ready to change your fighting strategy depending on the archetype. Certain archetypes require different strategies.

Winning this fight requires more than just hitting the boss a lot. The Elegy changes into different Archetypes that require you to change your strategy to fight it. It means you need to be ready to change tactics based on the Archetype. Hulkenberg’s Royal Knight Archetype with Omni-Counter is a very effective reward because it can repel attacks and taunt enemies. Any other archetypes that allow you to debuff the Elegy will also come in handy; it’s extremely powerful on its own, so reducing its damage can help keep you alive.

How To Fight Each Archetype

Elegy of the Soul can use eight Archetypes, which makes it a really unfair opponent to fight in Metaphor: ReFantazio. Each Archetype gives it a unique set of skills, which means you need to use a versatile approach to counter its attacks and fight them. These archetypes come up randomly, not in phases, so you just need to be ready to alter your strategy at a moment’s notice instead of being prepared for the next one to come up. The video from Zephyr below shows how a full fight can go.

The Seeker Archetype focuses on buffing its stats and dealing wind-based attacks. Its high critical hit rate can be a threat, but its reliance on wind magic makes it vulnerable to equipment or skills that nullify wind attacks. Keep in mind that you cannot deflect any attacks, so it’s best to be willing to tank these and heal through them.

The Masked Dancer Archetype primarily focuses on dealing elemental weaknesses, making the party vulnerable to upcoming attacks. It lacks strong offensive capabilities, relying on Crimson Flame for fire damage and Thunderhead Dance to deal weakness to Electric. You should go into this fight with equipment passives to nullify or resist fire, but capitalize on its lack of offensive power to deal significant damage while you have the chance here.

The Knight Archetype has a high defense that focuses on Pierce damage. Knight’s Defense drastically increases its defense, while Hammer of Justice inflicts a weakness on Pierce. You can counter this with Null Pierce gear or use the Royal Knight’s Proclamation skill to nullify Pierce weaknesses. Prioritize attacks with heavy damage to overcome its defensive advantage, as its heavy reliance on Pierce attacks limits its offensive capabilities.

Completing Metaphor: ReFantazio’s Test of Courage will require a high rank in this Royal Virtue, but the rewards far outweigh the risks.

The Warrior Archetype is similar because it prioritizes physical damage, boasting strong Slash attacks and high attack power. Counter this by prioritizing defense against Slash attacks, utilizing the appropriate equipment or passives. Alternatively, if you want, you can equip Null Slash gear or use a Royal Knight’s Proclamation skill to counteract the threat of its Slash attacks.

The Thief Archetype is a wildcard. It has a mix of physical and magical attacks. It relies on Quick-Change Arts to repel Slash, Pierce, and Strike attacks, while Agitator’s Art can inflict Malady. Use magical attacks against this Archetype to beat its Quick-Change Arts defense.

The Summoner Archetype is one of the most powerful of the bunch. It has a variety of elemental attacks and debuffs. It uses Summon Dragon God to deal fire damage and remove buffs, while Summon Fallen grants a repel against physical attacks. Prioritize your Null Fire equipment and use skills like Dekunda to remove debuffs. Be prepared for a barrage of elemental attacks, and utilize a mix of offense and defense to counter its multifaceted strategy.

Be aware of its powerful physical attacks and counter them with a mix of evasion and defense. This part of the fight is more about quick hits than tanking anything.

The Prince Archetype is the final and most powerful form of Elegy of the Soul. It has high stats and a powerful Armageddon’s Final Sire attack that can instantly wipe the party. Utilize your strongest attacks and focus on quickly defeating the Prince before it can unleash its devastating final attack. You have to be ready to heal because this will do major damage.
