A year before The Mandalorian & Grogu premieres in theaters, Disney is already preparing for the next Star Wars movie. Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu debuted in the hit show The Mandalorian on Disney+ and have not yet had the opportunity to appear on the silver screen. After a three-season run on Disney+, however, the pair will continue their story on May 22, 2026, in a movie that will see them continue their fight to revitalize the Mandalorian culture. The Mandalorian & Grogu has been a major presence at Star Wars Celebration this year, and ScreenRant is in attendance.

As Disney prepares for the marketing efforts, it will also tie the movie into its theme parks. The Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run attraction in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be featuring a new story as of May 22, 2026, which is the same day that the movie will be released. The mission will see Din and Grogu hunting Imperial remnants, collecting cargo to earn credits, and visiting Coruscant. The Imagineers wanted an Attack of the Clones atmosphere, featuring Din flying through traffic, as he faces off against Imperials hiding in the lower levels of Coruscant.

The Empire Is Back On The Galactic Capital

Imperial Forces Are Targeting Coruscant

The new Mandalorian-inspired Galaxy’s Edge mission is not the first time that an Imperial presence in Coruscant has been hinted at. The Mandalorian season 3 introduced Imperial spy Elia Kane, who joined the New Republic Amnesty Program, only to serve as a secret agent for Moff Gideon. The program was intended to help reeducate Imperial troopers and officers, but Kane is using it as a tool to gather information. As the program is housed on Coruscant, it remains significant evidence that other spies could be stationed throughout the planet.

This storyline will debut at the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts.

It is only natural that Din and Grogu would come across other Imperial troops on a mission across Coruscant, but this mission will be a risky one. The Mandalorians will be facing off against Imperials who are specifically hiding in the lower levels of Coruscant, after outlaw Hondo Ohnaka directs that they use the conveniently parked Falcon. Hondo believes that he is recruiting a “random Mandalorian guy” to lead the mission, only to find that Din is perfectly capable of stopping the large collection of Imperial sympathizers along the way.

This Provides More Context About The New Republic

While it will likely be included simply as a tie-in to The Mandalorian & Grogu, this new mission could also explain more about the New Republic. After all, the New Republic chose to place its capital on Chandrila, rather than relying on Coruscant, which had been home to the Old Republic and the Empire. The Republic has since rotated its capital, depending on routine votes, but this storyline could explain why they elected to avoid Coruscant in the first place. The Star Wars universe has an explanation for everything, and this secret could very well be hidden in Smuggler’s Run.
