Following its U.S. theatrical release last Friday, Ryan Coogler‘s newest film, Sinners, has officially set a new milestone for horror movies. The vampire movie is led by Michael B. Jordan, who has been working with Coogler since the filmmaker’s feature-length directorial debut, Fruitvale Station in 2013.

“Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers (Jordan) return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back,” reads the film’s official synopsis.

What milestone did Sinners reach?

Sinners has officially become the first-ever horror movie to receive an A grade on CinemaScore in the 47 years since its creation. Prior to this, CinemaScore has given A- scores to a select number of horror movies such as The Lost Boys, The Conjuring, and A Quiet Place: Part II. At the moment, the vampire movie currently holds a near-perfect Tomatometer rating on 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it Coogler’s highest-rated feature to date.

The film was written, directed, and produced by Coogler. Besides Jordan, the cast also includes Hailee Steinfeld as Mary, Jack O’Connell as Remmick, Miles Caton as Sammie Moore, Buddy Guy as Old Sammie, Jayme Lawson as Pearline, Wunmi Mosaku as Annie, Delroy Lindo as Delta Slim, Omar Benson Miller as Cornbread, Li Jun Li as Grace Chow, and more.

Jordan will next be seen in another high-profile horror movie, I Am Legend 2, which will see the return of Will Smith’s character from the 2007 post-apocalyptic thriller movie. He is also developing the fourth installment to his boxing drama franchise Creed, which he will once again direct.
