You Season 5 Cast & Character Guide

Netflix’s You has returned for season 5 with a host of new characters. Naturally, Penn Badgley is back to play serial killer Joe Goldberg, but with most of his acquaintances murdered over the last several seasons, there are few familiar faces going into season 5. Charlotte Ritchie’s Kate Lockwood is the only regular cast member brought back from season 4, which saw Joe take on the role of the “Eat the Rich Killer” and murder the majority of Kate’s friends. Of course, going into You season 5, Kate had no idea the extent of her husband’s crimes, but how long will that actually last?

The ending of You season 4 saw Joe return to the United States and marry Kate Lockwood. Now, You season 5 reveals that the happy couple managed to get custody of Joe’s son, Henry, allowing them to establish a comfortable life as a celebrity power couple. However, with Kate’s toxic family playing the manipulation game, it’s only so long before Joe’s prince charming exterior begins to crumble. Add in a lovely new obsession, and it seems that Joe’s violent tendencies are guaranteed to come exploding out on the new characters of You season 5.

Penn Badgley As Joe Goldberg

Date Of Birth: November 1, 1986

Maryland-born actor Penn Badgley landed his first primary role in 2000 in the soap opera The Young and the Restless, but his acting career really took off in 2007 when he played Daniel Humphrey in Gossip Girl, a role he held until 2012. During that time, Badgley appeared in several prominent movies, including John Tucker Must Die (2006) and Easy A (2010). His other prominent TV roles include Owen Gregory in The Bedford Diaries and Sam Tunney in The Mountain. Still, Badgley is best known for playing Joe Goldberg in Netflix’s You.

Badgley returns to play Joe Goldberg one last time in You season 5. In this installment, Joe is newly married to Kate Lockwood, who was able to legally resurrect her husband after blindly accepting his dark side in You season 4. Now, Joe is even less touchable than before. As a famous socialite, it would be a whole lot harder for this serial killer to face the consequences of his dangerously obsessive behavior.

Charlotte Ritchie As Kate Lockwood

Date Of Birth: August 29, 1989

English actor Charlotte Ritchie had her big break in 2011, when she joined the cast of the comedy series Fresh Meat. From there, Ritchie claimed further notable roles in projects like Siblings (2014 to 2016) and Call the Midwife (2015 to 2018). In 2019, Ritchie claimed her best-known role of Alison in the BBC sitcom Ghosts. Her other notable appearances prior to her first appearance in You‘s fourth season include Dead Pixels (2019 to 2021), Feel Good (2020 to 2021), Grantchester (2022 to 2024), and more.

Ritchie plays Kate Lockwood in You season 5. Joe met and married Kate at the end of season 4. Kate’s record isn’t particularly clean, so she decided not to look too deeply into Joe’s past when she helped cover up his darkest secrets. In the years since her return to her father’s company, Kate has been trying to use her wealth and power for good. However, her immensely complicated family has made this difficult.

Madeline Brewer As Bronte

Date Of Birth: May 1, 1992

New Jersey native Madeline Brewer claimed her first prominent role in Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, in which she played Tricia Miller. From there, Brewer joined the cast of Hemlock Grove to play Miranda Cates from 2014 to 2015. She has since appeared in movies like Braid (2018), Where Are You (2019), Separation (2021), and Space Oddity (2022). Still, Brewer’s most notable role continues to be Janin Lindo in The Handmaid’s Tale (2017 to present).

Brewer plays Bronte in You season 5, a new employee of Joe’s at Mooney’s bookstore. Bronte is everything that Joe likes in a woman. She is creative and loves literature, but seems to be all too good at making bad decisions and allowing toxic men to poison her life.

Griffin Matthews As Teddy

Date Of Birth: December 25, 1981

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Griffin Matthews kicked off his acting career with appearances in TV shows like Numb3rs (2005), Love Monkey (2006), Cashmere Mafia (2008), and more before claiming more prominant roles in projects like Doll & Em (2013), and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2014 to 2015). Matthews played D’Unte in the 2019 series Dear White People before collaborating with You executive producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter in The Flight Attendant, in which he played Shane Evans.

Matthews plays Teddy, Kate’s half-brother, in You season 5. The family had long rejected Teddy. When Kate returned to the US and took control of her father’s company, she brought Teddy along for the ride. Teddy is highly intelligent and deeply loyal to Kate, making him the sole family member who doesn’t work against his sister in You season 5.

Anna Camp As Reagan Lockwood-Jacobs & Maddie Lockwood

Date Of Birth: September 27, 1982

Born and raised in South Carolina, actor Anna Camp caught her big break in 2008 playing Sarah Newlin in the HBO series True Blood. Over the next years, Camp made appearances several TV projects such as The Office (2009), Glee (2009), and Covert Affairs (2010) before claiming recurring roles in Mad Men (2010), The Good Wife (2011 to 2016), and The Mindy Project (2012 to 2013). In 2012, Camp gained further notoriety by playing Aubrey Posen in the movie Pitch Perfect, a role that she returned to for both sequels.

Camp takes on two characters in You season 5, twin sisters Reagan and Maddie Lockwood. These are Kate’s half sisters, and though they look identical, their personalities couldn’t be more different. Reagan is all bullying, manipulation, and nastiness, while Maddie is only around for a good time. Still, both these sisters are Lockwoods, which means neither should be taken lightly in You season 5.

Frankie DeMaio as Henry Goldberg – Joe’s son, Henry, is played by Frankie DeMaio in You season 5. This is DeMaio’s first acting credit.

Pete Ploszek as Harrison Jacobs – Pete Ploszek, known for Babylon and Captain Marvel, plays Harrison Jacobs in You season 5, Reagan’s husband and Joe’s new brother-in-law.
