Not surprised, exactly. Just very, very impressed. And mildly concerned that a debut studio pulled this off without any apparent stumbling around in the dark.
You play as part of Expedition 33, the unlucky souls sent to stop the Paintress, a mythical figure who wakes up once a year, paints a number on her monolith, and erases everyone of that age. This year, she’s chosen 33. It’s a death ritual disguised as ceremony, and you’re off to break it, despite every sign pointing to failure.
