Giancarlo Esposito will always be known for his role as Gus Fring in Breaking Bad, but the five-time Emmy Award nominee has a new show on Netflix that’s dominating streaming charts. Esposito stars alongside Randall Park and Uzo Aduba in The Residence, the latest screwball comedy/whodunnit mystery streaming on Netflix. The show follows White House staff workers and the lives they share with the First Family. All eight episodes of The Residence dropped on Netflix more than a month ago (March 20), and although it took some time, the series has infiltrated the Netflix top 10, sitting at #8 at the time of writing. It also stars Molly Griggs and Ken Marino and earned solid scores of 85% from critics and 77% from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.

‘The Residence’ is now streaming on Netflix.

The Residence is inspired by the book The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House by Kate Andersen Brower, and Paul William Davies adapted the series for television. Davis first made his writing debut on two episodes of Betrayal in 2013, the psychological drama starring Hannah Ware and Henry Thomas, and just before the COVID-19 pandemic, he created For The People, the legal drama starring Hope Davis and Jasmin Savoy Brown. There are eight episodes of The Residence, and Liza Johnson and Jaffar Mahmood split directorial efforts, with each helming four installments. Johnson is best known for directing an episode of The Last of Us Season 1, and she helmed an episode of The Franchise on Max. Mahmood directed 30 episodes of The Big Bang Theory prequel series Young Sheldon and also two episodes of Bridgerton.

Giancarlo Esposito Recently Made His MCU Debut

Fans had been waiting for years to see Giancarlo Esposito finally suit up in a superhero movie, and although he had been fan-cast as major characters like Professor X or even Magneto, he played a smaller, less notable role in the first MCU movie of 2025. Esposito features as Sidewinder in Captain America: Brave New World, showing up in the film’s first act to throw a wrench in Captain America’s (Anthony Mackie) plans. It’s unclear at this time if he’ll ever reprise this role in a future project, but there’s still room for him to join James Gunn’s new DCU on the other side of the aisle.

The Residence stars Giancarlo Esposito and was created by Paul William Davies. Stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates and watch The Residence on Netflix.
