Paramount+ has officially kicked off production on Landman Season 2, and the cast is back on the ground in Texas — minus one major name. With cameras now rolling, anticipation is high for the return of the oil-soaked drama that wowed viewers and broke Paramount+ records, and if a recent behind-the-scenes tease is anything to go by, Ali Larter isn’t just back — she’s taking no prisoners. Almost the entire core cast from Season 1 is returning, including Billy Bob Thornton, Michelle Randolph, and Larter, with the exception of Jon Hamm, whose character Monty Miller was killed off in the Season 1 finale (RIP to one of the sleekest power players in the Permian Basin).

Season 2 is currently filming in Texas, where creator Taylor Sheridan and his team are once again aiming to bottle the mix of politics, power, and personal drama that made the first season such a hit. The show is expected to drop sometime in late 2025 or early 2026. Earlier this week, Larter shared a “little BTS of Season 2” on social media featuring her castmates and plenty of love for the Landman family. But while fan excitement bubbled up in the comments, so did familiar criticisms — namely about her character, Angela Norris, who some viewers have labeled as “over the top” and “poorly written.”

Larter’s not engaging with the trolls — but her co-star Billy Bob Thornton had no problem defending her character. Speaking to Deadline, Thornton said plainly:

“You ever been to Dallas? Just go down there and believe me, Ali is on every other corner.”

Ali Larter Explains Why Angela and Tommy’s Relationship Works

At the heart of the show lies the ferocious, volatile but genuinely loving relationship between Angela and Tommy. But

according to Larter, the chemistry that fuels their on-screen dynamic came from a rather surprising place, as she explained to CBS Mornings Plus.

“We are so different. Me and Billy in real life are complete opposites. But when we came together… we both loved the material, and we found the love in these two characters.”

That messy, passionate love — which, if you’ve watched the show, definitely goes through the wringer — is what anchors Landman amid all the power struggles, violence, and oilfield politics. “As much as they’re sparring all the time, they love each other for their flaws,” Larter said. “And there’s not a lot of judgment.”

Landman is streaming now on Paramount+. Stay tuned for more updates on Season 2.
