Sunrise on the Reaping Cast Adds Ghostbusters Star, Role Revealed

Mckenna Grace has joined the cast of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
The film adaptation of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will be released in United States theaters in November 2026 from Lionsgate. Based on the recently published novel by Suzanne Collins, the movie is directed by Francis Lawrence.

Grace has been cast as Maysilee Donner, who is Haymitch Abernathy’s fellow District 12 tribute, in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. It was also recently announced that Joseph Zada will play Haymitch in the movie, while Whitney Peak is playing his love interest, Lenore Dove Baird.
“Sunrise on the Reaping revisits the world of Panem twenty-four years before the events of The Hunger Games, starting on the morning of the reaping of the Fiftieth Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell,” a description of the novel’s plot reads.
The screenplay for Sunrise on the Reaping comes from Billy Ray. Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson will serve as producers, while Cameron MacConomy serves as an executive producer. Meredith Wieck and Scott O’Brien are overseeing the project for Lionsgate.
Grace is known for playing Phoebe Spengler in 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife and 2024’s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Her filmography also includes 2016’s Independence Day: Resurgence, 2017’s Gifted, 2019’s Captain Marvel, 2019’s Annabelle Comes Home, 2021’s Malignant, and more. She’s appeared in television series such as The Haunting of Hill House, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, The Handmaid’s Tale, and A Friend of the Family, among other titles.
Sunrise on the Reaping will be released in United States theaters on November 20, 2026, from Lionsgate. Collins’ book was published on March 18 and is now available for purchase.
