Fans’ speculations about Garret Dillahunt playing Green Arrow in the Lanterns series were on the rise recently after he posted a story on Instagram. The actor joined the Lanterns show featuring Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart in November 2024. While no official release date for the show has been revealed, it is expected to drop sometime in 2026.

Fans think Garret Dillahunt is playing Green Arrow in DC’s Lanterns series

Garret Dillahunt recently took to his Instagram Stories and posted a storyboard of himself in which his get-up resembled that of Green Arrow. The actor was seen wearing a green eye mask, which was similar to the one Green Arrow, also known as Oliver Queen, wears in comics, but slightly brighter.

This stirred chaos on the internet as fans started speculating whether Dillahunt was playing Green Arrow in the rebooted DC instead of William Macon. In November 2024, when the actor was announced for the Lanterns show, it was reported that he would play Macon, a “modern cowboy” known to be “a self-righteous, conspiracy-minded man who masks his ruthless ambition behind a charming and calculated facade.”

The story was reshared by DCU Updates on X (formerly Twitter) after it was deleted.

Is Garret Dillahunt DCU’s new Green Arrow?

While fans were debating about Garret Dillahunt supposedly playing the role of Green Arrow in the Lanterns series, James Gunn himself quashed the speculations.

The co-CEO of DC and Superman director was asked by a fan on Threads about whether Dillahunt is appearing as Oliver Queen. The user named @the_supermarioguy wrote, “@jamesgunn Is it true that Garret Dillahunt will be playing Green Arrow in Lanterns next year due to him posting these photos on his Instagram story yesterday?”

Gunn, in his reply, clearly stated, “Haha no.”
