Married at First Sight has always promised both love and drama, but unfortunately, the reality show has failed to produce many successful marriages. Married at First Sight makes a couple of casting errors causing messy seasons. Married at First Sight has always primarily been about trying to create successful marriages but what they are doing now is missing the mark. Married at First Sight needs to change tactics to see more successful marriages.

Recent seasons of Lifetime’s Married at First Sight have been messy. Season 18 was one of the most dramatic seasons, with divorces galore, Madison Meyer and David Trimble cheating, and a couple swap that left Allen Slovick and Michelle Tomblin heartbroken. Season 17 was not much better, with the cast creating their own storylines to get more screen time. The daily issues were repetitive and boring, with certain cast members unable to learn or change from their mistakes. Cast members were not invested in keeping their relationships together, and many went on Married at First Sight for exposure. Ultimately, these two recent seasons proved that Married at First Sight needs a change before the next season begins.

Casting Can Become a Disaster on ‘Married at First Sight’

Although there are issues with production and the experts, what makes or breaks a Married at First Sight season is the cast. Casting for Married at First Sight happens in a few different ways, according to alums from the show, who have briefly explained the process on their social media. There is an open casting call, an application for the show, or Married at First Sight recruits, often from a dating app. Open casting and applications make it easy to know who feels like their only shot at love is an arranged marriage.

However, because of production recruits, some participants do not have as much stake in the experiment. This leads to an imbalance in the cast, with some working hard to save their marriages while others do it to further their careers or become influencers. Married at First Sight must be particular about who they cast, especially when recruiting.

People Are On ‘Married at First Sight’ For The Wrong Reasons

Clout chasing is a big concern with Married at First Sight fans because the actions of some participants seem like they are seeking an audience. Many try to create support for current endeavors, like a new book, or they become influencers. In Season 17, it appeared that all the cast cared about was being on screen. Ikechi Ojore was called on social media for toxic behaviors on Season 18, with many believing that he was only on the show to promote his book. Fans on Reddit and Twitter brought up that Ojore tried to be on the show twice in two different cities as evidence.

One thing is for sure: Married at First Sight is not worth the risk in the end, as the entire Season 18 cast pointed out at the reunion. With so many seeking fame, it makes sense that their marriages would be filled with drama, real or made up. Married at First Sight needs to cast people who want to get married more than they want exposure.

Older Contestants Have More Life Experience

“With age comes wisdom,” seems true for Married at First Sight. An older cast has more experience and wants to be married more than a younger cast. For example, Season 18 had the oldest cast member in the show’s history, Thomas McDonald at 42. McDonald and wife, Camille Parsons, are still going strong because they spent much of their time communicating. Between life experience and a drive to create a long-lasting relationship at a different stage in their life, an older pairing could prove successful on Married at First Sight.

However, the full Oscar Wilde quote says, “With age comes wisdom, but sometimes age comes alone,” so although an older cast could have a more successful marriage, there is no telling how they will act because Married at First Sight has not brought an older couple onto the show. There could still be drama, but an older pair would be more willing to save the relationship. Married at First Sight needs to take a chance with older couples who have more life experience and have settled down in their lives more.

After an incredibly messy last few seasons, Married at First Sight needs to change how they cast before Season 19. Married at First Sight needs to invest in a cast that is invested in love and take chances with a new demographic. With Season 19 fast approaching, Married at First Sight needs to pick a cast that cares to avoid the mess of last season and hopefully create some successful marriages.
