After Charlie kills Jake and runs away with Mia, Walker and Vincent have a dramatic spaghetti Western-style showdown. The shootout ends with Walker killing Vincent, but he doesn’t get away unscathed. Thanks to the injuries he has incurred over the course of the fight, he collapses and lies flat on the train tracks as the police close in.
The ambiguous ending, which refuses to reveal Walker’s fate, is a creative choice by writer and director Gareth Evans. Speaking with Tudum, he explains, “It’s down to the audience about what their version of Walker is. Is he redeemable? Is he someone that we can like and stand behind?” However, Evans does go on record to confirm that Walker is indeed alive.
