Doctor Who Season 15 “Lucky Day” Trailer Reveals The First Look At Ruby Sunday’s Return In Episode 4

Doctor Who season 14 takes a break from Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu) and The Doctor’s (Ncuti Gatwa) long journey home, as the first trailer for episode 4, “Lucky Day” sees season 14 companion Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) take charge on Earth. Ruby left the TARDIS at the end of Doctor Who season 14 to reconnect with her long-lost family. The new season has revolved around the Doctor attempting to return Belinda home to present-day Earth after the TARDIS is prevented from landing, as the season reveals that something terrible may have taken Earth from history.
After a terrifying return to a familiar world in “The Well”, the trailer for Doctor Who season 15 episode 4 “Lucky Day” has been released on the official Doctor Who YouTube channel and brought the series back to Earth.
Reuniting with Ruby Sunday, the episode sees her try to resume a normal life after her time in the TARDIS as she enters a blossoming relationship with Conrad, played by The Little Mermaid star Jonah Hauer-King. However, a inhuman creature is stalking the pair, forcing Ruby to take charge without the aid of the Time Lord.
What “Lucky Day” Means For Doctor Who Season 15’s Ongoing Story
The Doctor May Not Be Reuniting With His Old Friend Just Yet
While Doctor Who season 15’s surprising Tenth Doctor sequel took the focus of “The Well”, the episode established that Earth doesn’t have a place in the far future, with humanity having never expanded beyond the stars and the planet itself being unheard of. As such, many may be confused to see the Doctor and Belinda seemingly make their way to Earth to meet Ruby and even reunite with Ruby, though things may be more complex than they seem.

Why Ruby Sunday Left The TARDIS In Doctor Who Season 14’s Ending
The reason Doctor Who’s Ruby Sunday stayed on Earth at the end of season 14 instead of continuing to go on new adventures with the Doctor.
In the brief glimpses that have been given of Ruby and the Doctor sharing the screen, both she and the Time Lord are wearing the outfits seen in “The Church on Ruby Road” and “Space Babies”, meaning that their scenes may be taken from unseen moments between either adventure. Furthermore, the Doctor and Belinda may once more be stuck in the past and unable to progress to May 25, 2025, but their actions may reverberate into Ruby’s present-day adventure. As such, Ruby’s upcoming adventure will still be a showcase of how she has grown since leading the Time Lord.
Our Thoughts On Doctor Who Season 15’s “Lucky Day” Trailer
Something Is Troubling The Doctor’s Closest Allies In His Absence
Doctor Who season 15 has so far kept the fate of Earth a mystery, with “The Well” only just beginning to address its absence from the universe. As such, many mainstays of Russell T Davies’ second showrunning tenure, such as his friends at UNIT, have strangely been absent, especially after early on-set pictures teased a storyline that saw the organization forced to reckon with a public that has become more sceptical of their handling of extraterrestrial threats. As such, Ruby taking the lead in a Doctor-lite adventure may be a perfect opportunity to explore how Earth fares in his absence.
