New images from Zach Cregger’s Weapons have been released.

Weapons is a new horror movie written and directed by Cregger, who previously helmed 2022’s Barbarian and recently produced 2025’s Companion. Starring Josh Brolin and Julia Garner, the movie will be released in United States theaters this coming August.

Check out the new Weapons images (via Discussing Film on X), which offer the first look at Garner and Brolin’s characters in the movie, below:

What did Zach Cregger say about Weapons?

Weapons is about a group of children — seventeen, to be exact — who mysteriously go missing from their homes on a random Wednesday morning at 2:17 a.m. They never return, leaving the community to grapple with what happened.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Cregger teased that the missing children mystery propels audiences “through at least half of the movie, but that is not the movie.”

He continued, “The movie will fork and change and reinvent and go in new places. It doesn’t abandon that question, believe me, but that’s not the whole movie at all. By the midpoint, we’ve moved on to way crazier s— than that.”

Garner plays a character named Justine Gandy in Weapons. Justine is a teacher at a local school who finds that all of her students, apart from one, disappeared that fateful Wednesday morning. Brolin, meanwhile, plays Archer Graff, who is the father of one of the missing kids, while Cocaine Bear’s Alden Ehrenreich plays a police officer.

The cast of the film also includes Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan; however, Cregger also said that there are “a couple missing names” from the cast that haven’t yet been officially announced.

Regarding whether or not Weapons is directly related to Barbarian, given that a promotional website for Weapons seems to suggest it takes place in the same universe as Barbarian, Cregger said, “I don’t want to definitively say any way or the other.”

Weapons will be released in United States theaters on August 8, 2025, from Warner Bros. Pictures.
