One of Outlander‘s most mysterious characters will be returning for season 8, and this could be the perfect opportunity for Claire to get a magical ending. The upcoming episodes of the romantacy series will mean the end of Jamie and Claire’s adventures. This is certainly a hard reality to accept, but, on the brighter side, it will be thrilling to finally get answers to some of our biggest overarching questions. One that Outlander season 8 can’t avoid but addressing relates to Claire’s destiny. This final season will have to demonstrate precisely why Claire was always fated to travel through time.

To understand why Claire and Jamie connected through time and space, Outlander season 8 will have to dive deep into the magic. Some mysterious, biological force allows characters like Claire, Brianna, Roger, Geillis, and other Outlander characters to travel through the stones. What’s more, there’s something about people like Jamie that makes them a sort of anchor for time travelers—someone they will always be drawn to across time. It’s clear in Outlander that Claire has some unknown purpose in history, and there could be no one better to explore this magical truth than Master Raymond.

Actor Dominique Pinon Has Confirmed He Will Be Back In Outlander Season 8

This Mysterious Character Makes One Final Appearance

Master Raymond in Outlander

Master Raymond was first introduced back in Outlander season 2 when he and Claire developed a friendship in France. It was this mystical character who saved Claire’s life after she gave birth to her stillborn daughter, Faith, but he disappeared after the events of King Louis XV’s witch hunt. After years, it was thrilling to see Master Raymond again at the end of Outlander season 7. He appeared to Claire in a dream, inspiring her theory that Faith Fraser may have lived. While this could have been the last that we saw of Raymond, actor Dominique Pinon confirmed otherwise.

In an interview with Télé-Loisirs, Pinon discussed his return to Outlander in season 7 and noted that Starz had already called him again to make another reappearance. It’s another mysterious reappearance, but not with Claire’s character,” Pinon said. This is rather intriguing. It means that season 7 was likely the last time Claire would ever see Master Raymond. However, even if he appears to someone else, any reappearance from Master Raymond would surely come with answers to some of our biggest questions about Claire. After all, it’s evident that Pinon’s character knows a great deal about the magic of Outlander.

Master Raymond’s Return Will Likely Mean More Answers About The Nature Of His Character

We Need More Answers About Who & What Master Raymond Really Is

The Outlander books have dived a bit deeper into Master Raymond’s character than the TV show has. We know from Diana Gabaldon’s novels that he is an ancient time traveler who was likely born sometime around 500 BC. Additionally, it is heavily implied that Master Raymond is an ancestor to Claire, Geillis, Brianna, and other time-traveling characters. He is powerful and seemingly immortal, possessing the ability to heal others as well as himself. Still, we don’t necessarily know the extent of Master Raymond’s goals in Outlander.

Master Raymond seems to be a puppet master in Outlander. In the books, multiple time travelers mention having a run-in with this character, with some stating that he guided them through the standing stones. Though we currently have no idea who Master Raymond will appear to in Outlander season 8, Pinon’s comment implies that he will serve a similar guide role in the coming episodes. Surely, this will mean some answers about his full purpose in the Outlander universe. Moreover, since his powers are similar to Claire’s, Master Raymond’s appearance can open the door to more answers about her character as well.

Outlander Season 8 Can Lean Into The Magical Connection Between Master Raymond & Claire

Understanding Master Raymond Means Understanding Claire

Claire with Master Raymond in Outlander

Way back in Outlander season 2, Master Raymond told Claire that she had the same blue aura as he. He explained that everyone has a specific color aura, and that blue is the color of healing. Master Raymond said this as he magically healed Claire’s body of infection, ensuring that she survived the sepsis that had been deemed incurable. Later in Outlander, the Cherokee shaman, Adawehi, told Claire that she would one day rely on magic to heal rather than her tools and medical knowledge. However, the TV show has dedicated little energy to Claire’s exploration of her power.

Perhaps, said and done, it would be revealed that Claire’s destiny is to follow Master Raymond’s path.

Master Raymond’s return in Outlander season 8 may be the perfect opportunity for Claire to finally learn how far her power can go. The reveal that Faith Fraser might have lived could be more than enough to inspire Claire to use her magic, since she would be faced with the reality that Master Raymond’s power is enough to bring someone back from the brink of death. As she practices her power, Outlander season 8 could draw further connections between Master Raymond and Claire. Perhaps, said and done, it would be revealed that Claire’s destiny is to follow Master Raymond’s path.

Master Raymond will appear before a character other than Claire in Outlander season 8, and this interaction will almost certainly shed some light on this character’s purpose. Perhaps it will be a flashback scene, during which Master Raymond appears to Faith Fraser. Or, the final season of Outlander could see Master Raymond reveal himself to time travelers like Roger or Brianna as he guides them onto the next step in their journey. The more we understand Master Raymond’s goals, the more we can guess what Claire’s Outlander future will look like.

Like Master Raymond, Claire could become an ancient, mysterious figure of immense power.

Since Claire and Master Raymond have the same powers in Outlander, it could be assumed that our heroine is meant to embark on a mission similar to her ancient predecessor. It may ultimately fall to Claire to travel through time, guiding time travelers and healing those whose destiny has not yet been realized. Like Master Raymond, Claire could become an ancient, mysterious figure of immense power. With her white hair, she would become the true La Dame Blanche. This would be a fitting purpose for Claire’s adventures, ultimately bringing the story of Outlander full circle.

A Magical Future For Claire After Season 8 Would Be The Perfect Way To End The Outlander Series

This Would Bring Claire’s Story Full Circle

Claire’s story could still end in a wide variety of ways. Gabaldon has yet to finish her Outlander book series, so season 8 is more or less on its own when bringing the series to a close. However, a big reveal that Claire is meant to become some sort of magical, mythical figure would mean a truly delicious end. The books make it clear that Claire’s power is rooted in her love for Jamie. Master Raymond would have brought these characters together through time and space to ensure that Claire would come into her power and realize her magical destiny. It’s magical and a touch bittersweet—a perfect conclusion for Outlander.
