Max debuted exclusive footage from Peacemaker Season 2 during a new promotional trailer highlighting upcoming releases. The teaser featured key action moments, major character developments, and the return of John Cena as Christopher Smith, offering a first glimpse at the next chapter of the DCU series. The new season premieres on August 21, 2025. The footage also teased scenes from The Last of Us.

John Cena’s Peacemaker appears in new Season 2 footage from a Max trailer, showing Christopher Smith amid fiery destruction. In the brief clip, Smith gives a thumbs up while surrounded by chaos and later jumps through a window of a burning building. Leota Adebayo (played by Danielle Brooks) tells him, “You’re a superhero now.”

James Gunn confirmed that Season 2 will be canon within the new DC Universe (DCU), although not all of Season 1 is included. Gunn stated to IGN, “The truth is almost all of Peacemaker is canon with the exception of Justice League, which we will kind of deal with in the next season of Peacemaker.”

He added, “In Creature Commandos, you’ll hear them talk about things that happened in [The] Suicide Squad or Peacemaker. Well then, those things automatically become canon.” Gunn confirmed that the show will retcon the comedic Justice League cameo from Season 1’s finale.

Set photos revealed a mural that features Peacemaker, his father in the White Dragon suit, and a third character believed to be his deceased brother, Keith. Robert Patrick will return as Augee Smith, despite the character’s death in Season 1.

The series continues the story of Christopher Smith following 2021’s The Suicide Squad. According to the official Season 1 synopsis, it follows “a compellingly vainglorious man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.” Gunn’s comments suggest the show’s multiverse elements will allow Season 2 to shift into a new DCU continuity while referencing past events.
