‘You Live and You Learn’ Ahead of Season 2

Jenna Ortega recently opened up about her comments of Wednesday Season 1’s scripts, as well as how she’s been approaching the second season.
What did Jenna Ortega say about Wednesday?
In a recent profile on The Cut, Ortega briefly discussed the comments she made about the Netflix series’ scripts from Season 1. In 2023, Ortega said that she would sometimes change the scripts to the show because they didn’t make sense to the character.
The comments quickly made the rounds and stirred up some controversy, something Ortega says she’s learned from.
“I used my words really poorly,” Ortega said. “All I had to do was say ‘improvised.’ You live and you learn.” Despite the controversy, Ortega said she’s had no issues with director Tim Burton and series creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. “I spend so much time with those guys,” she says. “They trust me enough to know what Wednesday would think and do.”
Ortega is still hands-on with Wednesday Season 2
Elsewhere in the discussion, Ortega revealed that she is still meeting with Burton every day while on set. She also noted that she still gives notes on the scripts and prosthetics of the show, and was also sitting in on casting for some of the younger actors.
“Tim and I would talk with the writers, cross out lines, and they would supplement new ones,” said Ortega, before opening up about the younger actors joining the show. “All the girls coming in were 8 to 16, and I can only imagine how scary that must’ve been. It’s a vulnerable age. I would try to hide as much as I could because I do have the [resting bitch face] thing going.”
Wednesday Season 2 is set to release sometime this year on Netflix.
