5 Theories For How Yellowjackets Season 3 Will End

Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Yellowjackets season 3, episodes 1-9.
The Yellowjackets season 3 finale is nearly here, and it’s likely to deliver a few more shocks before it’s through — which is no easy feat after the twists of the last few episodes. Yellowjackets season 3, episode 9 sets the stage for an explosive finale, which will show the aftermath of Van’s death and reveal Lottie’s killer in the adult timeline, all while welcoming another brutal winter in the teen one. There are many questions that need to be answered in the coming chapter, and that’s resulted in many theories cropping up ahead of its release date.
The trailer for the Yellowjackets season 3 finale offers some idea of what’s to come in the last installment, teasing another hunt, some emotional moments for the adult survivors, and Lottie’s death from her own perspective. All of this makes for an exciting installment, and its title — “Full Circle” — also hints at big things. It’s not clear how, exactly, the finale will bring the story full circle, but there are promising theories about what could happen as Yellowjackets closes out its latest chapter.

Callie Will Be Revealed As Lottie’s Killer
This Would Explain Their Connection & Misty’s Reaction To The Phone
Yellowjackets season 3 places an increased focus on Callie and Jeff in the present-day story, and the show has yet to justify that. While Shauna’s family dynamics are important to understanding her adult character, the clues that Callie could be as ruthless as her mother — and her fascination with the Yellowjackets — seem likely to have a greater purpose. I think she’ll be revealed as Lottie’s killer in season 3’s final episode, and I think that’s why Misty has such a strong response to Walter’s copy of Lottie’s phone in “How the Story Ends.”

Yellowjackets Season 3 Is Finally Fulfilling A Lottie Matthews Setup From The Pilot Episode
Yellowjackets season 3 is finally delivering on one Lottie Matthews storyline that goes all the way back to the Showtime series’ pilot episode.
Misty may have discovered texts placing Callie at the scene of the crime, as Lottie may have planned to meet up with Shauna’s daughter on the day she died. In the trailer for “Full Circle,” Lottie tells someone, “They brought you to me.” We know she’s intrigued by Callie and her power; she says as much at the end of Yellowjackets season 2. She also gives Callie Jackie’s heart necklace, so the show is setting up some sort of twist between these two characters. And Walter could have made a mistake with the DNA, as Callie’s would partially match Shauna’s.
The Yellowjackets season 3 finale trailer shows Jeff having an emotional reaction to something — perhaps finding out his daughter is a killer.
Additionally, the Yellowjackets season 3 finale trailer shows Jeff having an emotional reaction to something — perhaps finding out his daughter is a killer — and Shauna returning to an empty home. All these scenes could stem from the revelation that Callie is responsible for Lottie’s death. Jeff may realize the effect that Shauna is having on their family and take Callie away, or perhaps Callie runs away after her parents learn what happened.

Yellowjackets Season 3 Will Reveal Hannah Is Pit Girl
Mari Is No Longer The Strongest Contender
It’s not clear whether we’ll get answers about Pit Girl in the Yellowjackets season 3 finale, as the hunt in the trailer doesn’t seem to match the pilot scene. However, the fact that the title is “Full Circle” — and that the season 3 premiere opens with “It Girl,” a clear play on the Pit Girl nickname — makes me believe we’ll return to the show’s opening. And I think the theory that Hannah will be revealed as Pit Girl holds a lot of weight, as her hair matches what’s on the Antler Queen’s robes, and she’s likely not aware the pit exists.

I missed a minor but devastating detail of Yellowjackets season 3, episode 8, and it somehow makes the teens’ failed rescue even sadder.
Mari would know where the pit is and how to avoid it, and killing one of the lesser-known Yellowjackets would prove pretty anticlimactic. It seems more likely Hannah will fill this role, and that’s especially true if Van continues to rig the cards. It’s unclear if it’s for this hunt or another one, but the trailer shows Van agonizing over what she’s been doing. Tai is asking her to choose who should die this time, and as Hannah is the newest member of the group — and thus, the person they’re least attached to — Van picking her makes a lot of sense.

Alex & Melissa Are Working Together To Get Revenge On The Yellowjackets
Hannah’s Daughter Knows Who Melissa Really Is
When Shauna confronts Melissa in Yellowjackets’ adult timeline, Melissa claims that Hannah’s daughter, Alex, doesn’t know who she is. However, I’m not certain this holds up. On Reddit, several viewers believe that Melissa and Alex might be working together to avenge Hannah’s death. This would mean that Alex knows exactly who she married, and they’re purposefully going after the other Yellowjackets. Perhaps that’s why Melissa kills Van in Yellowjackets season 3, episode 9. And her leaving the body behind makes it seem like she doesn’t care if her wife finds it.
She certainly seems to have darker motives and plans than she has let on.
This could also see Melissa going after Shauna’s or Tai’s families, as it would imply that Melissa and Alex are keeping tabs on the adult survivors. I’m not sure if Melissa will make it that far, but she certainly seems to have darker motives and intentions than she has let on. And it’s possible she sent that tape knowing it would bring the other survivors directly to her and Alex.

Taissa Will Hunt Down Melissa But Not Kill Her
The Season 3 Finale Will Continue Her Conflict With Other Tai
Even if her dark alter ego has been locked away, there’s no way that adult Tai is letting Melissa get away with killing Van. And the trailer for the Yellowjackets season 3 finale shows her pulling a knife on someone. It also sees her lamenting, “She’s going to end up being the last one standing.” I think Tai is going to hunt down adult Melissa, but my theory is that she won’t actually kill her. Doing so would render Van’s sacrifice meaningless, as teen Van suggests her fate was worth it to get the real Tai back.

“This Isn’t The Ending”: Van’s Plane Vision In Yellowjackets Season 3 Explained
After Yellowjackets season 3, episode 9’s shocking ending, Van returns to the plane — and her vision could have much bigger implications.
That doesn’t mean Tai won’t need to grapple with her rage and how to handle it, though, and I don’t believe her power struggle with Other Tai is over. She’ll probably track down Melissa and be forced to choose which version of herself she wants to embrace. Hopefully, she’ll choose the one Van wanted in control — though given how dark Yellowjackets gets, you just never know.

Natalie Keeps Misty’s Secret So They Can Call For Help
This Explains The Adult Characters’ Dynamic
The end of Yellowjackets season 3, episode 9 sees Misty returning to the plane’s broken transponder, looking for a way to fix Hannah’s phone. Natalie catches her, and while Misty could come up with a lie, it seems like Natalie has already pieced together the truth about Misty’s actions in season 1. Natalie’s realization that Misty broke the transponder explains her contempt for Misty in the adult timeline. However, I don’t think Natalie will tell the other girls what Misty has done.

Things are heating up in Yellowjackets season 3’s Wilderness timeline, but the events of the teen story are making it harder to believe the adult one.
I agree with the theory that Natalie will likely keep Misty’s secret (via Reddit), partly because she’s hopeful that Misty can still get them home and partly because she doesn’t want more blood on her hands. And this explains why Misty reveres Natalie in Yellowjackets‘ present-day story. Crystal turns on Misty when she learns the truth, but Natalie protects and works with her. She may be appalled by what Misty did, but Misty reads her reaction as friendship.
