I’m Convinced I’ve Figured Out How Louis Gets Involved With Ted Black In Suits LA (Despite Not Reuniting With Harvey)

Harvey Specter and Louis Litt’s upcoming appearances in Suits LA

are set to further establish the spinoff series as part of Suits’ world, and I think I know how Ted Black will find himself enmeshed with Louis despite no past history between them. The crises in the main timeline took the better part of Suits LA season 1 to be sorted out, focusing Ted’s attention on the merger between Samantha and Stuart he was cut out of, and Lester’s trial, whose success was all but guaranteed. This didn’t help Suits LA sell the supposedly close bond between Ted and Harvey.

Indeed, Gabriel Macht’s return as Harvey in Suits LA season 1, episode 4 solely focused on Harvey and Ted’s past in New York, painting a picture of two friends who kept in touch a few months after going their separate ways professionally, but whose friendship had yet to stand the test of time. Harvey and Ted meeting again in the main timeline in Suits LA season 1, episode 8 can dispel any doubt about their relationship while showing the reason behind their reunion. It can also reveal why someone who Ted doesn’t know like Louis will appear in Suits LA.

Suits LA Episode 8 Trailer Teases Harvey & Ted’s Return To New York

Ted & Harvey Can Be Seen Bantering In Suits LA Episode 8’s Trailer

The trailer for Suits LA season 1, episode 8, “Acapulco” not only shows Ted and Harvey reuniting in the main timeline, but it also reveals their return to New York. In two scenes – identifiable as such by Ted’s different outfits – Harvey can be seen first offering Ted a drink before revealing they are set to get on a flight to New York, and then discussing with Ted after the latter reiterates the common Suits theme of good guys doing bad things in order to “make the bad guys pay.”

Suits LA season 1, episode 8’s trailer hasn’t disclosed what brings Harvey to Los Angeles to pick up Ted and accompany him to New York, but the trip itself offers some explanations as to why they are both called to return to their old home. Indeed, the trip can be a result of Harvey and Ted’s shared past bringing them back to New York or come after Ted called up his former colleague for help. Whichever the reason for Suits LA’s brief change in setting, it will shake up the story and can potentially introduce another Suits LA future cameo.

There Would Be No Reason For Ted To Meet Louis Otherwise

Rick Hoffman’s Louis Litt is also scheduled to return on Suits LA for one episode, with his appearance set not to happen in conjunction with Harvey’s. Still, with Harvey being the only point of contact between Ted and Louis, as he had worked with the former at the DA’s office and the latter for the best part of a decade at Pearson Hardman, he can be the reason behind Ted and Louis’s meeting. After all, Harvey has still one episode left to appear in Suits LA season 1 after episode 8.

Despite Suits’ resurgence in late 2023, its spinoff, Suits LA, has failed to make an impression regarding ratings in early 2025 on NBC.

Ted’s flashbacks in Suits LA season 1, episode 4 established Harvey as the one character Ted could tell about his problems and he would have helped him. Whichever the reason for Harvey and Ted to meet again in Suits LA’s main timeline, Harvey not being able to fully help Ted or needing to return to Seattle would explain both putting Ted in contact with Louis and returning for his third and final appearance in Suits LA’s future.

Louis & Harvey’s Rivalry Turned Friendship Was 1 Key Suits Story

Suits LA season 1’s story left the spinoff time to breathe in regards to references to Suits, including plenty but never having them overtake Suits LA, thus letting the spinoff series take its shape without the parent series’ established narratives and bonds looming over it. This was evident in how Suits LA employs Harvey’s return, stretching it out over separate episodes, and it can also explain why Louis and Harvey’s appearances in the spinoff do not overlap. After all, Louis and Harvey’s relationship yielded the biggest results in Suits, going from bitter rivalry to the most caring friendship.

Louis and Harvey not reuniting in Suits LA season 1 feels unsatisfying because their bond had little time to be showcased in Suits after Harvey left the firm and New York to join Mike in Seattle. Not being able to see Harvey and Louis together in Suits LA has the same flavor as their being separated in Suits’ ending, having reached a point where they stand up for one another only for their bond not to be witnessed. While this might be helpful for Suits LA, not overcrowding it with too many iconic Suits moments, it’s nonetheless disappointing for fans.
