Colleen Hoover’s ‘Reminders of Him’ Featuring Maika Monroe Adds an ‘Atlanta’ Star

The feature-length adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel, Reminders of Him, is picking up steam, as it’s found its leading man. Tyriq Withers, who fans will recognize from his recurring roles on Hulu’s Tell Me Lies and Paramount+’s The Game, has officially been cast to star opposite Longlegs, and It Follows’ Maika Monroe. The project is set to be helmed by Vanessa Caswill (Love at First Sight), with Hoover working alongside writer Lauren Levine to pen the screenplay. The title marks Withers’ latest pairing with Universal, as audiences are eager to see him appear opposite Marlon Wayans in the Justin Tipping-helmed feature, Him, which is set for a theatrical release later this year.
The project is the latest to come from Hoover’s sprawling catalog of beloved books that are ripe for on-screen picking and has sold over 6 million copies in the United States alone. Reminders of Him follows the story of a young mother named Kenna Rowan who has just spent the last five years of her life behind bars after a major mistake led to the death of her boyfriend. Upon her return to the town where the tragedy took place, Kenna is on the look-out, hoping to reconnect with her young daughter and atone for her past transgressions.
Along with Reminders of Him, Hoover has multiple other irons in the fire, including the topsy-turvy love triangle shared between Josh Hartnett, Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson in Verity. More recently, the author’s novel It Ends with Us was given the big-screen treatment courtesy of filmmaker Justin Baldoni, who also starred opposite Blake Lively. Unfortunately, the drama surrounding the production’s leading stars garnered more media attention than the title itself, but it still scored big with Hoover fans. Also in the works is Regretting You, which so far has added Scott Eastwood, Allison Williams, Willa Fitzgerald, Mason Thames, Dave Franco, and Mckenna Grace to the cast.
What Else Does Tyriq Withers Have On the Way?
As mentioned at the top, Withers will next be seen in cinemas as one-half of the leading cast for Tipping’s Monkeypaw Productions-backed horror flick, Him. The movie follows Withers’ Benny — a young football player who’s on the verge of greatness but needs that extra push to get him there. Spotting an opportunity for some major growth, Benny accepts an invitation to train alongside one of the sports’ greatest quarterbacks of all time, Connor (Wayans). But, things quickly go off the rails, and Benny takes a head-first dive into a psychological maze alongside his hero.
Prior to that, Withers will dip into the long-loved world of I Know What You Did Last Summer through Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s sequel. Joining a cast that includes legacy stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr., and newbies such as Jonah Hauer-King, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, and Chase Sui Wonders, the actor will bring the slasher favorite to a new generation.
