6 Reasons I Don’t Want Welcome To Plathville To Return For Another Season (The Show Isn’t Telling The Whole Truth)

Welcome To Plathville has been an interesting series for years, but I’m not looking forward to the idea of another season of the series after seeing family developments in the news, especially with how things are edited for the Plaths. Throughout Welcome To Plathville season 6, it was clear that the Plath family had splintered in a way that was far more difficult than expected. The family’s matriarch and patriarch, Kim Plath and Barry Plath, struggled to be the parents that their children needed after moving them out of fundamentalism and into the modern world, leaving them unequipped for drama.
After years of watching the Plaths as a unit, when Kim and Barry chose to separate, I felt concerned for the family as a whole. A divorce would mean a major change, which was tough for the kids to handle on top of everything going on in their personal lives. Even though the kids weren’t looking for reality TV fame when the show started, the taste of attention and interest that they felt when Welcome To Plathville began airing must have changed them fundamentally. It became obvious on screen how much the family had shifted after the split.
Although there have been lighthearted moments on Welcome To Plathville since Kim and Barry’s divorce, the Plaths have had difficulties in their familial and independent lives. Kim, who was arrested for a DUI in 2022, has struggled to move past the incident and rebuild trust with her kids, while Barry has appeared to try and turn over a new leaf with the Plath family, trying to regain his kids’ trust after years of authoritarian parenting. Despite their challenges, the Plath kids’ relationships with their family have been difficult. Ethan Plath, Moriah Plath, and Micah Plath, specifically, have had tough times.
After watching the fallout of Ethan’s divorce from Olivia Plath, which put him on a difficult path and led her to expose his misbehavior, and the development of Micah’s relationship with Veronica Peters and Moriah’s relationship with Matthew Craven, it’s clear there are some difficulties the Plath kids need to work through. Seeing them forming relationships that won’t serve them has been difficult, and the idea of Welcome To Plathville season 7 exploring more stressful relationship dynamics isn’t interesting to me. The next season of Welcome To Plathville’s most likely storylines have me believing the show shouldn’t return at all.
Unfortunately, if the show can’t be fair, I don’t want to see them try to tackle such serious subject matter.

Olivia’s Accusations Against Ethan Won’t Be Explored
She’s Alleging He Was Abusive
Although I’d love to see a season of Welcome To Plathville where the show didn’t side heavily with the Plath family when it came to Olivia, I’d be remiss to expect that. In the last seasons of Welcome To Plathville, Olivia’s relationship with the Plath family and Ethan have been the most difficult moments to watch. Olivia, who married into the Plath family at the age of 20, has been dealing with the difficulties of the family ever since. While she had a decent relationship with Kim early on, things became strenuous quickly, and Olivia became the family’s scapegoat.

After Olivia made shocking allegations about Ethan’s behavior in their marriage, which ended after five years during Welcome To Plathville season 5, it became clear that the Plath family had likely been hiding a lot of the behavior they saw from their eldest son. Though the allegations haven’t been proven, Olivia’s raw honesty has led many to feel she’s telling the truth. Even so, it’s unlikely Welcome To Plathville would explore Olivia’s allegations against Ethan in a healthy, consistent way. Unfortunately, if the show can’t be fair, I don’t want to see them try to tackle such serious subject matter.

Ethan’s New Relationship Won’t Be Revealed
He’s Going To Keep His Girlfriend Quiet
As Ethan has moved away from Olivia and their relationship, it was clear when he was ready to get back out into the world after isolating himself. Ethan, the eldest son of the Plath family, has been clear that he doesn’t always want to talk about his relationship with Olivia because of how deeply hurt he was by her. Even so, Ethan’s consistent lack of emotion surrounding the divorce has been unsettling, and the fact that he doesn’t appear to take any accountability has rubbed many the wrong way. Ethan’s odd behavior isn’t new to Welcome To Plathville viewers.
While Ethan’s time as a single man was documented throughout Welcome To Plathville season 6, he quickly turned things around despite the strange air surrounding the couple’s divorce. Ethan shared some dates on screen, but keeping his private life a bit more private than he had when he was married to Olivia seemed to make sense for his lifestyle. While Ethan’s been in a relationship for quite some time, it’s clear that he doesn’t intend to share much of it on social media, which leads me to believe he also wouldn’t reveal his girlfriend’s identity on Welcome To Plathville, either.

Kim & Barry’s Real Issues Haven’t Been Discussed
Their Divorce Has Been Tough
Kim and Barry’s relationship has become a bigger part of the Welcome To Plathville story after their separation, but has also started to become far more fractured as the former couple are trying to co-parent their three younger children amid tension. Throughout their marriage, it was clear that Barry was more authoritarian than Kim, while she was more settled with the children while they were living as fundamentalists. With a bit of an age gap, Kim and Barry’s relationship became less of a comfort to their kids and more of a difficulty as their separation turned into a contentious divorce.
Although Kim and Barry have been having a tough time in their divorce, Welcome To Plathville viewers haven’t been privy to many of their issues. Despite knowing that there’s been difficulty for the couple, Welcome To Plathville has chosen to bring the exes together more frequently to terse, intentional meetings that don’t show the disarray their relationship is currently in. With an impending custody battle and allegations that the couple doesn’t speak to one another, Kim and Barry’s real disagreements would be better to see on screen than to read about, even though the show doesn’t care to show them.

Moriah’s Relationship Has Been Kept Off-Screen
She Hasn’t Been An Open Book
As Moriah has moved through her young adult life on screen, it’s been clear to Welcome To Plathville viewers that she’s been choosing to keep some of her more private moments off the show. While in her younger years, Moriah was up front about her relationships and shared more about her life outside of her music career, in recent seasons, she’s been a lot quieter about what’s happening. Moriah originally felt strongly about sharing her relationship with Max Kallschmidt or what was going on between herself and her siblings, but as her life has grown more complicated, she’s been private.
When it was revealed on screen that Moriah had been seeing an ex that the family didn’t approve of during Welcome To Plathville season 6, it became clear that she was attempting to hide an entire relationship while still retaining her connection with her family. After Welcome To Plathville season 6, viewers discovered Moriah’s boyfriend was her ex, Matthew, who her family had some public issues with during their first shot at a relationship. While I’d love to learn more about their relationship and how it unfolded, I don’t think Welcome To Plathville will delve into the details.

Micah’s Connection To Veronica Has Been Overexaggerated
Their Relationship Is Imperfect
Although Micah and Veronica’s newer relationship was featured heavily on Welcome To Plathville season 6, it became clear throughout the season that Veronica wasn’t the best person despite her apparent love for Micah. While Micah has never brought anyone he’s dated into the Welcome To Plathville world, Veronica decided to come onto the show and reveal her identity after Micah spent a few episodes filming in their shared space. The decision has been questioned by viewers, who have struggled to understand if Veronica was genuinely interested in keeping her identity to herself or if she was creating suspense.
Although Micah and Veronica have revealed some difficult moments on Welcome To Plathville, their relationship has been difficult for most viewers to get behind. After seeing Veronica treating Micah with an authoritative streak that doesn’t make sense for their station in life, seeing Micah folding to whatever Veronica wanted throughout the season, and hearing about her relationship with his family being both uncomfortable and positive, Veronica doesn’t seem like the right person for Micah. I‘m not interested in seeing their strange, at times exaggerated connection anymore after Welcome To Plathville season 6 tried to make them into a major storyline.

Lydia’s Quick Engagement & Wedding Will Be Normalized
The Relationship Will Be Made To Seem Sweet, Not Strange
While I am interested in learning more about how Lydia Plath came to meet, get engaged to, and marry her new husband, Zac Wyse, I have reservations about how the relationship would be portrayed on Welcome To Plathville season 7. Throughout her time on the show, Lydia has often been shown to be the de facto extra parent for her younger siblings. As the Plath sibling who had less going on professionally or socially, Lydia was often tasked with taking care of her younger siblings when her parents weren’t available, and as she’s gotten older, she has been given more responsibility.
While Lydia considered a boyfriend on the show in the most recent season, it wasn’t clear how serious her new relationship was before she got engaged. When her engagement was announced on social media, I was shocked along with other Welcome To Plathville fans. Despite knowing that, as a religious person, Lydia would likely want to get engaged and married quickly, her relationship with her now husband Zac was incredibly accelerated. Unfortunately, I don’t think Welcome To Plathville would cover Lydia’s relationship with the care it deserves based on the way they’ve treated her in the past.
