Sky confirms Saturday Night Live remake for UK with release date window
According to a report by Deadline, the British broadcasting network Sky has confirmed the UK remake of SNL and also provided a release date window for the series.
SNL UK will premiere on television across the United Kingdom in 2026. It will air on British pay television channel, Sky Max, but additional details about the cast and hosts of the show are still under wraps.
The UK remake will follow the tradition of SNL remakes that have been made in Italy, Germany, South Korea, and China. The creator of the original SNL, Lorne Michaels, will serve as an executive producer for the UK version. Michaels’ production house, Broadway Video, will team up with Universal Television Alternative Studio (UTAS) UK. SNL UK will also follow the same live sketch comedy show pattern as the US version.
Following the announcement of SNL UK coming next year, the CEO and Chief Content Officer at Sky, Cecile Frot-Coutaz, said in a statement, “For over 50 years Saturday Night Live has held a unique position in TV and in our collective culture, reflecting and creating the global conversation all under the masterful comedic guidance of Lorne Michaels.”
She shared her excitement to bring the remake to the UK and added, “The show has discovered and nurtured countless comedy and musical talents over the years and we are thrilled to be partnering with Lorne and the SNL team to bring an all-British version of the show to UK audiences next year – all live from London on Saturday night.”
