Good shows have a way of setting you up to consistently want more. Netflix‘s hit legal drama, The Lincoln Lawyer, is consistent with that and its third season finale did exactly that. Cruising down the streets of Los Angeles with the wind in his face, Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) is celebrating victory in yet another tough case, and this time he intends to take a vacation. But when a police officer pulls him over for a missing license plate, the body of his client Sam Scales (Christopher Thornton) is found in the trunk. Season 4 has already begun filming in Los Angeles in February and the sixth book in Michael Connelly‘s Lincoln Lawyer series, The Law of Innocence, will be adapted. However, there is one character who might not return for Season 4.

Yaya DaCosta was introduced in Season 2, in which she played fierce criminal prosecutor Andrea Freeman. After adversarial jousts with Haller in the courtroom, the relationship between the pair transitioned to cozy friends with benefits, and then some. However, Andy does not appear in The Law of Innocence novel, and with the return of Mickey’s ex, Maggie McPherson (Neve Campbell), the character will most likely be relegated from the story. DaCosta addressed her future regarding The Lincoln Lawyer during a recent interview with TV Insider, saying, “It was not expected. It was not explained.” She goes on to add:

“Sometimes when things like this happen, the writers will give an explanation in a conversation between two characters who are on the show. Or someone will make a phone call and pretend the disappeared character is on the other end. Who knows what they’ll do? I’m just focusing on the now and future.”

Could Andrea Freeman Still Return to ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’?

Mickey and Andrea were good together, as evidenced by the support they offered each other, when Eddie Rojas (Allyn Moriyon) died in an accident driving Mickey, and Andrea’s client Deborah Glass (Rebekah Kennedy) was killed by her abusive ex-husband Scott (Ian Fisher). Andy will be missed on the show, but showrunner Ted Humphrey, has not closed the door on a potential return for Andrea in the future. “You never say never. First of all, obviously, we’ve got to get another season and then hopefully seasons after that. We feel like we have a really great palette of characters to play with, and so you can bring them in and out of the stories,” he said. “…So Andrea is a great tool in our toolbox that we would love to find another way to use.”

When The Lincoln Lawyer returns, Mickey’s defense is likely to lack the expertise of Andrea. However, swinging in his corner will likely be his ex, Maggie, his legal assistant turned attorney, Lorna (Becki Newton), his investigator, Cisco (Angus Sampson), and Izzy Letts (Jazz Raycole). For the opposition, the show has brought on Constance Zimmer as Dana Berg, a relentless prosecutor seeking to put Mickey behind bars.

All three seasons of The Lincoln Lawyer are streaming now on Netflix. Stay tuned at Collider for further updates on Season 4.
