What do we know about the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon TV show?
Per Deadline, the description of the show reads, “Amidst stunning landscapes and spectacular action, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon follows Shu Lien and Mu Bai, two star-crossed warriors, as they struggle between forbidden love and the pull of modernity — caught between preserving their way of life or embracing a future together.”
In addition to Ning and Moore, the show comes from executive producers Maril Davis, Johnny Levin, Roy Lee, Hong Wang, and Quin Wang. Ying Lou serves as co-executive producer.
The novel was the fourth entry in Dulu’s Craine-Iron pentalogy, which were published between 1938 and 1944. The other four books are Crane Startles Kunlun; Precious Sword, Golden Hairpin; Sword Force, Pearl Shine; and Iron Knight, Silver Vase.
The book was famously turned into a 2000 movie that was directed by Ang Lee. Currently available to stream on Max, it stars Chow Yun-fat, Michelle Yeoh, Zhang Siyi, and Chang Chen. The film was nominated for 10 Academy Awards in 2001, including Best Picture. It won Best Foreign Language Film, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Score.
A sequel — titled Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny — was released on Netflix in the United States in 2016. Yuen Woo-ping directed that movie, based on Iron Knight, Silver Vase. It stars Donnie Yen, Yeoh, Harry Shum Jr., Natasha Liu Bordizzo, and Jason Scott Lee.
