There are many great cards in Star Wars Unlimited, but sometimes a card just proves to be too great. This is common in many TCG’s, and the developer, Fantasy Flight Games (FFG), keeps an eye on the meta as the game continues to ensure no one card is overperforming. In the past, this resulted in the suspension of Boba Fett (Collecting The Bounty) from Premiere play, as he dominated the meta early on. Now, three more cards have joined him in suspension, allowing the game to continue to evolve.

Jump To Lightspeed is Set 4 of Star Wars Unlimited, and it was released in early March 2025. Three large tournaments have taken place in the past couple of weeks, and it was those tournaments that ended up proving that three cards were overrunning the rest of the legal cards in play. In addition, the rotation from Premiere play has been announced, and the first one will take place when Set 7 releases next year. With all of the recent shakeups in the meta, it will be interesting to see how the first Galatic Championship turns out.

Three Deck Staples Were Just Suspended From Premiere Play

Star Wars Unlimited Will Have To Develop A New Meta

Jango Fett, Triple Dark Raid, and DJ

In FFG‘s most recent live stream, three cards were officially suspended from play, starting this Friday, April 11.

After that, these cards will be unable to be used in Premiere formats but can continue to be used in Twin Suns and limited formats like Draft and Sealed if your local game store hosts any with cards from past sets. The fourth format, known as Eternal, will have more details once the first rotation happens, but we don’t know if these cards will be legal or not for that format at this time.

Star Wars Just Debuted Their Own Version of Xenomorphs (Seriously)

The Star Wars galaxy has just debuted its own horrifying version of Alien’s Xenomorphs in Jedi Knights #2, and the similarities are quite remarkable.

The three cards that have been suspended are:

  • Jango Fett (Concealing The Conspiracy) – Cunning/Villainy Leader
  • Triple Dark Raid – Cunning/Villainy Event
  • DJ (Blatant Thief) – Cunning Ground Unit

As you can see, all three cards are from the same aspect, perhaps proving how dominant the Cunning aspect has been in the past few months. In fact, the other suspended card, Boba Fett, was one of the best leaders from Set 1 of Star Wars Unlimited, and he was also a Cunning Leader. The developers even stated that they think Jango’s qualities were masked in playtesting because Boba was not suspended at the time when they tested these leaders.

Removing them does a lot of things for the game and for the meta, but based on recent events and the qualities of all of these cards, it was the best thing for the game’s health in the long run.

Jango Fett’s Leader Ability Was Too Powerful

He Needed A Higher Cost To Use His Ability

Jango Fett as a Leader had one of the best abilities in the game that made him far too powerful, particularly once he was deployed. He also deploys fairly early at only five resources, and once he is deployed, he can be nearly impossible to remove. The combination of indirect damage, cards that can do a lot of damage to the entire board, and the ships that benefit him more than anyone else create a board state that is overwhelming for the opponent.

His ability on the Unit side allows the controller to exhaust an enemy unit when it is damaged with no cost. This means that as long as Jango is on the board, you can keep exhausting almost every unit on the enemy’s side of the board. Compared to The Mandalorian Leader in Star Wars Unlimited, who has to play an upgrade to exhaust enemy units with a certain amount of HP, this feels far too unrestricted.

This keeps your enemy exhausted and with few ways to get Jango off the board without a lucky Rival’s Fall. You can get there with other cards, but they are either very expensive or have specific conditions, like Takedown. It is also mostly relegated to the Vigilance Aspect, so if you are not playing that Aspect, you will have to find another way to get Jango off the board. However, just suspending Jango wasn’t quite good enough without adding the other cards to the suspension list.

Without Suspending The Other Cards, The Deck Lists Don’t Change

Take Away One Leader, Replace It With Another

TDR & Devastator cards

Triple Dark Raid appeared in all of the top eight decks at the Sector Qualifier in Milan. In Premiere, you can include up to three copies of any card, and all eight of the top decks included all three copies of Triple Dark Raid. Getting rid of Jango doesn’t solve this problem, as any Leader that can run it would have ended up using the same cards in the same deck with a different Leader to helm it, which is exactly what happened when Boba was replaced with Jango.

The main reason it is so powerful is that it can pull out some of the big Rare and Legendary ships, like a Devastator (Hunting The Rebellion), for a much lower price. This brings it out much earlier than your opponent can typically prepare for, and the current set is filled with vehicle units to take advantage of the ability. The fact that it is so dominate is evidence that even without Jango, the Cunning/Villainy deck list doesn’t change, it just has a different Leader.

Star Wars: 5 Sith Superweapons That Are Just As Dangerous As The Death Star

The Death Star is the original Star Wars superweapon, but the Sith have built countless others while seeking to take over the galaxy far, far away.

DJ is a little different, as he is still a Cunning unit but he isn’t restricted to just Villainy. The main concern with this card is that Han (Audacious Smuggler, would just retake the meta using DJ and leave other decks to suffer in its wake. With Han’s ability to create an extra resource and DJ’s ability to steal one from your opponent, you can be two or more resources ahead of your opponent without trying too hard to get there.

DJ was known to be a card that FFG was keeping an eye on, so it’s not a surprise that they finally decided to remove it from Premiere. All of these cards are officially Suspended, not Banned, so they could choose to bring them back. The meta needs to be healthy, otherwise, it takes half the fun out of the game and prevents us from exploring every Leader to their full extent. I’m convinced this will open the meta back up, and we will start to see more diverse decks entering competitive play in Star Wars Unlimited.
