The exciting return of timey-wimey space adventures might be set for tomorrow, but the ever-giving folks at Doctor Who are still providing the Whoniverse with exciting news. Today, it has been officially confirmed that the one and only Graham Norton is part of the upcoming Season 2 cast, aptly set to feature in the upcoming season’s sixth episode, “The Interstellar Song Contest.” A parody of the beloved Eurovision Song Contest, which will air once again on the same night as this sixth episode, “The Interstellar Song Contest” will also feature another favorite host from across the pond, Rylan Clark.

Speaking about Norton’s exciting addition to Season 2, showrunner Russell T. Davies said, “There’s no song contest without the great man himself, and it was an honour to welcome Graham Norton to our studios in Cardiff. And it’s not just a cameo, he has a whole plot twist all to himself! This is the wildest episode of all, and we’re lucky to have Graham adding to the mayhem.” Norton joins an exciting ensemble lineup for the upcoming Season 2, which includes the titular Time Lord himself, Ncuti Gatwa, brand-new companion Belinda (Varada Sethu), Millie Gibson‘s Ruby Sunday, the iconic Alan Cumming as a rogue cartoon character, Mr. Ring-A-Ding, and the return of Anita Dobson‘s mysterious Mrs. Flood.

Graham Norton’s Previous ‘Doctor Who’ Appearances Have Gone Down in Folklore

News that Norton might play a pivotal role in the episode will put smiles on fans’ faces, especially considering this won’t be the Irish TV legend’s first impact on the modern revival, although his first two appearances were against the better wishes of higher-ups. During the live airing of “Rose,” the very first episode of Doctor Who‘s modern revival, Norton’s show Strictly Dance Fever, which was airing at the same time on a different BBC channel, was mistakenly heard over the audio of the actual Doctor Who episode.

Then, hilariously, Norton accidentally appeared again five years later, as a banner advert featuring a cartoon version of Norton was played over the top of the tense ending to the Season 5 episode, “The Time of Angels.” These incidents have gone down in Doctor Who folklore, with Norton’s appearance in the upcoming Season 2 now severely overdue. Doctor Who Season 2 will officially kick off on Saturday, April 12, with streaming available via Disney+.
