Amazon MGM StudiosTomb Raider TV show has finally received a new update regarding the current status of the project’s development, after nearly a year since it was granted an official series order. The live-action adaptation was set to hail from award-winning creator and actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who’s best known for her acclaimed work on the Fleabag miniseries.

What was the Tomb Raider TV show’s disappointing update?

Amazon MGM Studios has reportedly pulled the plug on Waller-Bridge’s live-action Tomb Raider series. According to the latest report, the reason for the show’s rumored cancellation might be due to the delay caused by creative setbacks involving its script. Prior to this report, Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner was in negotiations to portray the leading role of Lara Croft last November 2024.

If the project has indeed been scrapped, Prime Video’s Tomb Raider show would have been the latest live-action adaptation of Crystal Dynamics’ hit video game series, following Angelina Jolie’s popular Lara Croft: Tomb Raider movies, and Alicia Vikander’s 2018 remake. As part of her overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios, Waller-Bridge had signed on to serve as the project’s writer and executive producer.

“If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode,” Waller-Bridge said in a previous statement when the series was officially announced. “Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”
