The search for the next Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley is still underway, with no casting news imminent. At least, that’s the official word. In a wide-ranging new interview with Deadline, Channing Dungey, Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group, confirmed that while progress is being made on HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter reboot, the iconic trio at the heart of the story has not yet been cast.

“We are not yet ready to announce the kids,” Dungey said, referencing the leads of the planned multi-season series. “We’re still working our way through that process.”

That process has been intensive. Over 32,000 young actors have reportedly auditioned for the coveted roles of the Boy Who Lived and his two best friends. While adult casting news has trickled out — Deadline previously reported John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, and Nick Frost were either cast or in negotiations to play Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, and Hagrid respectively — fans have been anxiously awaiting word on who will step into the lead roles made famous by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint.
