After years of waiting, anime studio David Productions has confirmed that JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run is in production. The news arrived at the hotly anticipated JOJODAY celebration, a film festival meant to celebrate the franchise’s history and future in animation. Accompanied by a teaser trailer, the announcement is already spurring fan elation on social media, and for good reason, considering the positive reception of Steel Ball Run.

Posted to X by JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’s official account, the teaser features the years the first six parts took place before rewinding the clock to 1891 and showing an image of Part 7’s titular Steel Ball Run race. Part 7 protagonist Johnny Joestar and his companion Gyro Zepelli are seen racing their horses down a ravine alongside a host of other riders.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 7: Steel Ball Run Has Been A Long Time In The Making

Fans Have Anticipated The Series For Years

Fans have been awaiting the announcement ever since the conclusion of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean in December of 2022. As the gap between Stone Ocean’s conclusion and any news of a Steel Ball Run anime grew, there was concern that the manga’s seventh part would never be adapted. This would have been a major disappointment to fans, as Steel Ball Run is commonly ranked among the best JoJo parts. Now that it has been confirmed, however, fans can rest easy.

Steel Ball Run is a hard reset of the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure continuity, focusing on an arrogant version of Jonathan Joestar who lost the use of his legs in an accident. Through a series of complex events, Johnny comes to enter the titular Steel Ball Run, a race mostly on horseback from coast to coast of the continental United States. With fans anticipating more than a few Steel Ball Run moments getting animated, the series is sure to attract a legion of fans.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Steel Ball Run Secures The Franchise’s Animated Future

Parts 8 And 9 Are Sure To Follow

The announcement of a Steel Ball Run anime is good in and of itself, but it also has positive implications for the rest of the franchise. Despite the anime’s massive popularity, there were some doubts about whether David Productions would tackle more JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure after Stone Ocean’s conclusion. That series was the end of the original JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure timeline and even included a tribute to all past parts in its final episode. While the fears were, perhaps, overblown, the lack of any confirmation of the franchise’s animated future after Stone Ocean led to fans being understandably concerned.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is filled with moments that are almost too unbelievable to fathom, and these are eight of the most jaw-dropping.

Now that Steel Ball Run‘s anime has been confirmed, though, fans can rest easy knowing that JoJolion and The JoJoLands will eventually get adapted too (though given that Part 9’s manga is still in production, that one may be farther off). All of it adds up to the announcement of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run being a very positive sign for the franchise’s future.
