Song Kang & Park Min-young Are 2 Of My Favorite K-Drama Actors, But I’m Not Sure How I Feel About Their 3-Year-Old Workplace Rom-Com

Two of the most popular K-drama actors, Song Kang and Park Min-young starred in Forecasting Love And Weather, but the 2022 K-drama left a lot to be desired. Created by Kang Eun-kyung, Forecasting Love and Weather is a romantic K-drama that focuses on the burgeoning love story between Lee Shi-won and Jin Ha-kyung.

While Forecasting Love and Weather was far from being a bad show, it was still criticized for not bringing anything new to the table, particularly because of the caliber of the actors who are part of its cast. Forecasting Love and Weather is a solid pick for fans of Song Kang and Park Min-young, but the show has a few shortcomings that always bothered me. Despite having a heartwarming and relatable story, Forecasting Love and Weather can hardly be considered one of the best K-dramas of its genre.

Forecasting Love And Weather Combined 2 Of My Favorite K-Drama Actors

Song Kang And Park Min-Young Were Great In Forecasting Love And Weather

Given how successful K-dramas starring Song Kang and Park Min-young have been, I was excited to see them in a romantic Korean TV show where they played each other’s love interests. One of the most famous and beloved South Korean actors, Song Kang entered the acting scene in 2017 with his debut K-drama, The Liar & His Lover. Since then, Song Kang’s career has skyrocketed, and he has had roles in hits such as Sweet Home, Navillera, My Demon, and Nevertheless. The popularity of his K-dramas on Netflix even earned him the nickname “The Son of Netflix.”

Song Kang’s Best K-Drama Romance Was So Good, I Wish He Would More Roles Like That

This 2023 romance Korean television series starring Song Kang and Kim Yoo-jung is one of the South Korean actor’s best roles so far in his career.

Song Kang’s co-star in Forecasting Love and Weather, Park Min-young has had an illustrious career which includes K-dramas that are considered masterpieces. While Park Min-young is mostly known for her roles in romantic K-dramas like What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim, Marry My Husband, and Love In Contract, she’s also appeared in the action series City Hunter and the historical K-drama Seven Day Queen. Park Min-young and Song Kang’s impressive careers meant that there was a high expectation for their collaboration.

I Wasn’t Too Excited About Forecasting Love And Weather’s Workplace Premise

Forecasting Love And Weather Has More Than One Romantic K-Drama TropeThe cast of Forecasting Love And Weather stand in their office in front of computers

Romantic K-dramas usually feature several tropes, including enemies to lovers, a rich man who falls for a poor woman, and, of course, a workplace romance. Forecasting Love and Weather features a love story between Park Min-young’s Jin Ha-kyung, a 35-year-old forecaster at the Korea Meteorological Administration, and Song Kang’s Lee Shi-woo, a 27-year-old working in the Special Division of the Korea Meteorological Administration. Essentially, Forecasting Love and Weather is a workplace romance K-drama. However, it also includes other tropes, such as a romantic relationship between an older woman and a younger man.

Park Min-young and Song Kang’s first collaboration should have been in a K-drama that had an interesting and fresh premise.

Seeing that there are a lot of K-dramas with a workplace romance, such as King The Land and What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim, that also feature the same trope and are in some ways better, Forecasting Love and Weather wasn’t that exciting. Park Min-young and Song Kang’s first collaboration should have been in a K-drama that had an interesting and fresh premise. Instead, audiences got the kind of storyline that has been seen countless times before. The fact that Forecasting Love and Weather was a mixture of several romantic K-dramas didn’t work in its favor.

Both Song Kang And Park Min-young Have Much Better K-Dramas Under Their Belts

A man and woman embrace in the snow in Forecasting Love And Weather

It isn’t fair to say that Forecasting Love and Weather is a terrible K-drama. It isn’t. However, it is not as good as other Korean TV shows that Song Kang and Park Min-young have starred in. For example, Park Min-young and Park Seo-jeon’s workplace romance, What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim, is a better K-drama than Forecasting Love and Weather and shows how old tropes can still lead to fun, creative stories.

Most of Song Kang’s romantic K-dramas are great, with the actor often having great chemistry with his co-stars. The Son of Netflix also starred in Nevertheless, one of the most unconventional K-dramas due to how the love story between its main leads develops. His Netflix hit TV show, Sweet Home, proved that he was ready to be a major star even outside the rom-com genre. Despite how ordinary Forecasting Love and Weather is, the K-drama is worth watching just because of how good Song Kang and Park Min-young are in it.
